I want this so bad. I want to feel good about myself. I don't want to be an embarrassed to take my kids swimming. I am tired of being tired. That being said, this is such a total lifestyle change. I have been reading everyones' posts and I as read them, I have to wonder if I can do this. The rules, carbs, the calories, the protein...you get my where I am going. I love to cook for my family. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to cook a healthy meal for my family. Will I lose my love of cooking? There are so many people here that give me hope that I can do this. So tell me it is all worth it. Life will better and eating properly isn't rocket science. As I type this, I know that I am ready for my day to get here. The wait is driving me crazy. Thanks for reading my rambling writings. I hope everyone has an awesome weekend. Shannon |

I know how hard it is right where you are now. Been there!! But I must say that this is the best thing that I could have ever done for myself. I used to love to cook and actually still do. Sometimes I have to make 2 different things because I wont eat some of the things that the family does. I am even beginning to bake things for them again. Alot that I will not eat myself, but it makes them feel good. After your surgery, you are not going to want to eat anything, let alone cook. Use that time wisely. it will come to you and it will definately get easier!!

Exactly what Kim Said. There are days where I really want to make bad food choices but this surgery has helped me to not do that. I am healthier now then I have been since my teens. I also loveto cook and since my hubby has been home I have been cooking those same wonderful meals as always, I just have learned how to cook them healthier. I am a southern girl so pre-surgery everything was fried, now I bake, broil and grill. The hardest part of this surgery is the emotional side of it,.

Can't help you with the cooking part, never enjoyed cooking except around the holidays. I live alone so its only me any way and my 2 dogs...lol. I was worried too before the surgery, but I wouldn't go back. I don't really count calories, just protein and water at this point.

we all had this thought beforehand...but march forward, get the hard part over, and let the tool work. You have to commit your heart/soul to it, your mind will follow suit! You are not alone...WE HAVE ALL wondered if we could do it, and the pros MOST DEFINITELY outweigh the cons!

I took a month off after surgery (not because I needed it, just because I could) and I found that I was cooking a lot of meals for my DH. He was happy to recieve. Part of that was experimenting to see what kind of meals I need to start making instead of the fast foods like pizza. So I would say "No, you won't lose your love of cooking." I think you will take great pleasure in finding ways to cook even healthier meals, knowing that you are helping your loved ones eat better. You don't need to count calories, but you do need to start reading lables on everything. I won't touch anything with 14g or more of carbs, must be under 5g of fat, and must have some protein - the higher the better. I use fitday.com to track what I'm eating and it adds up all the calories etc. for you. That's really all there is to it - low fat and carbs, high protein. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am definitely going to start with the habit of checking labels. I make a lot from scratch so I will have to adjust accordingly. I am ready to get it over with and get on that loser's bench. Lazell- I already jump on the trampoline with my twins. :0 I am sure it is sight for the neighbors to see. I am looking forward to not worrying if I am going to break it. LOL |
