Default Has anyone had kids after surgery?

I recently saw something mentioned about troubles with giving birth after Gastric Bypass and i just wanted to see if anyone on the boards have had a baby after RNY surgery.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That would be Carney Wilson, you were on the right track Wilson Philips was there group name. My daughter in law had the gastoblasy banding and she just had a baby in July. Her doc said she had to wait til she was at least a year out and she did good, I know it wasn't the RNY but ask your doc.

From what i heard, is its ok but they want you to wait either a year or two before having any after sugery. But I know of girl who did get pregnant like 9 months afterwards by accident. She did fine and she still looks great.

Yes, you can have a baby, whether it's bypass or banding.
What you need is a good ob who understands about bypass and weight loss.
You do need to wait until you have lost the excess weight you want to and have stabilized. That's why your surgeon will tell you to wait for 18 mos at least, most surgeon will say 2 years. The reason is, 1) you will need to get in nutrients for both yourself and the baby and 2) you need to be at a point that increasing your intake temporalily will not endanger your weight loss and your extablishing healthy eating habits and life style.

You also need to be careful about birth control during the rapid losing phase, the melting fat will release a lot of estrogen (female hormones) and make you extremely fertile. In fact, hormonal contraception will not work during this period, so you have to consult your ob/gyn and use a method that doesn't depend on hormonal control.

Jolie did get pregnant while still under a year, but she's done well and was able to keep at a good weight, and her baby son is healthy also.
I sure hope to hear of more babies as y'all get to goal and stabilize and do good. I know many of you are planning on having more kids. Hope to see a rush of baby pics in a couple of years.

Well i was surfing the net and read an article that said after GB its a high risk pregnancy for mother and child and there is a higher mortality rate for child.... But I know for sure that people have kids after because its my doctors biggest concerns is after surgery pregnancy since your more fertil after loosing weight. One of my friends was pregnant 6 months after her surgury and child and mom are fine but i was just wondering if there was anyone else on here that has had a baby since the surgery.

Well, medically speaking, post bypass pregnancies are high risk pregnancies, just as all performing surgeries on obese people, including bypass surgeries, are high risk.
When we use the word "high risk" it means that the dangers of something going wrong during whatever, and/or the probability of complications developing afterwards, is higher than people with good health/normal weight. So, you need to be under the care of an experienced dr, and given expert care to reduce the possibility of something happening.
What "high risk" means is that you should choose your drs carefully, so they will know what to look out for, help you prevent untoward events, and be able to catch things early so they can be taken care of easily in the event that something does happen.

Now, lemme see...say, it has been snowing and the road is slippery. You have to go out regardless because there's something important you need to do. So, when you go out, you know the road is slippery, and you have to be very careful about walking and driving so you can get to your destination safely, and you will, most of the time, but no matter how careful you are, you may slip. However, even if you do, since you are already aware that you can slip and fall, the damage will be much much less that if you had gone about the way you would when the roads were clean and dry.
Something like that.
