| Plastic surgery in Mexico
I was wondering if anyone is considering getting their plastics done in Mexico. If so you should check out cosmedclinic.com. Dr. Quiroz is a highly skilled surgeon (board certified in Mexico and the US) and the prices are less than half of the US average. I am also looking to hear from people who may have used Dr. Quiroz previously, I would love to have your input.

Obesity Help also has a good forum, and Make Me Heal has lots of pictures to look at to get an idea of what you might look like afterwards.
There's a lot of discussion on OH about going to Mexico or not. The main drawback is finding a doctor stateside that will treat you if you develop complications, but a lot of people do go there for the price cut.

Just a question. Are you paid for your referrals? I'm not trying to start anything but your blog reads like a commercial...

Hi Calamity,
lol, no I am not paid. I am just super excited. I went through severe depression once I realized that I lost all this weight but was still so unhappy with my body so I started looking into getting surgeries to correct the things I needed done. Once I found out that it would cost in excess of 40k here in the states, I was even more distraught. As a mother of three who is still in nursing school, that may as well be 40 million. I just want to make sure that people in my same position know of the alternatives. Why am I so excited about Cosmed in particular? Well I contacted about 10 plastic surgery centers in Mexico since I really do not want to go further than that and the most I ever got back was a price list and a generated email. When I sent my pictures to Cosmed, Dr. Quiroz called me personally to discuss what he thought he could do for me and spent about 45 min to an hour on the phone with me...on a Sunday. This really impressed me. He seems to genuinely care about his patients and their outcomes and as a health care professional in training, I know how rare that can be. I just want to make sure that anyone who was feeling like something was so out of their reach, can get the information I did. I came upon my choice by research, and I encourage anyone else to do the same. Your health and well being is nothing to play around with or bargain shop for if it puts you at physical risk, even if someone finds that Cosmed is not for them, there are safe, affordable choices out there. I just happen to like the fact that out of 10 inquiries, only one Dr. took the time to treat me like a person, not an email.

I just wondered since you were concerned about referrals and such. That isn't important if one isn't getting payed. I would be more interested if you actually had the surgery. It is a little hard to take a review to heart when you haven't had the surgery or been to the clinic. Not saying it is good or bad but would rather read after you've actually been there.
Like I said, I'm not trying to start anything but all those links had my beware radar up.

Well, Judi, I don't blame Calamity for wondering. In the year and a half you've been here, you've posted 5 times and most of them have been about this doctor in Mexico.
Do you actually have a date yet? We'd love to follow your progress. I hope he's at least as good as you think he is!
How are you going to handle the followups? Maine is quite a ways from Mexico. Have you established a support system up there? It'd be a bummer to get back home and find that no doctor wanted to touch you because it was someone else's work.

The concerns about having an established support system close to you, after you have surgeries--any surgeries--abroad, is a very valid one, especially where elective surgery is concerned. There are a number of members here who've had PS, and the fact is, due to the quality of the skin and the underlying muscles of the formally obese (they may be stretched out over the limit so that PS requires more care and techinque than standard) a few have had to have revisions, or have the surgery done in 2, sometimes 3 stages.
I hope everything works out well, and that you'll keep us posted on your progress.

You are braver than me. I could never be away from home, let alone in another country for surgery. I know people save money by going to other countries for surgery but I prefer to be close to family, friends and my own bed. Good luck

I have just started my research on mexico cosmetic surgery. I live near the border in San Diego, so it is not that far away from friends and family. I did check out CosMedClinic.com and thought you might be interested in this story about what the recovery process is like when you have surgery in Mexico. I know it doesn't compare to being near family and friends, but if cost is a major obstacle in getting your surgery (like it is for me!) its good to understand how the after care works.
Here is the link to the blog post about recovery in Mexico from one of Cosmed's patients A Glimpse inside my After Weight Loss Surgery Recovery in Mexico | |

I was talking to my mom this morning about PS and the cost here in Maine.
She lives in Puerto Vallarta and tells me that there are great plastic surgeons there in Jalisco. She and my dad both got their faces done down there by a doctor from Wisconsin.
Now, my mom is not exactly the kind of support I dream of, but it is an avenue to consider.
