oops sorry you said you dont have insurance. Im sorry. Yes there are medical companies that are willing to finance it. Try to find a surgeon you are comfortable with, good ones will know if ways to get it financed. Good luck.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hey, Kenya - ok I'm curious about your current thoughts on plastics and what your current experience is with the skin issue. Based in the pix we see it doesnt seem to be an issue but I am wondering about your thoughts on the subject. Thanks for your input.

I've started doing arm workouts with a personal trainer as soon as I felt ok to do so. working on your triceps and biceps as soon as you can will help lessen "bat wings". I also started doing inner thigh work (anything that doesn't pull on your abs) too. My asian medicine doctor and I are experimenting with a herb that increases collagen and elasticity from the inside. I'm starting this now so I'll keep you posted whether it works or not, if it does, I'll definitely be sharing, it's not that expensive, comparitively.

well......since you asked
my upper arms and thighs hang but are not bad. i think i lucked out to be honest because i was never especially active but my muscle tone is OK. my stomach is pretty bad to be honest. but i dunno...i found my insurance will cover a TT but i dont really want one. i think eventually things will level out. by that i mean i think i will have a certain degree of bounce back with the skin over time once my body adjusts to the loss. of course it wont be perfect and i will never be a swimsuit model, but i cant say i want anything cosmetically done. part of this journey for me has been accepting ME; my body, what it looked like before and what it has come to look like now. i also think part of the happiness that comes with this is in working hard to get a result and maintain it. i cant imagine having my stomach done over and then nothing else lol. it would look retarded. i would rather work out and tone up what i can and remain natural with the rest. stretch marks, flabby skin and all. it's totally a personal decision. for me, i feel like working on it myself will make me appreciate the results more and motivate me to maintain them.

wow...that was longwinded. im sorry. i hope i answered your question though lol

I know the original post to this is old, but it is a very interesting topic. I find it interesting because I wondered how many went and have ps done after they lost. I won't be the one to ever get it done... besides the fact that it is expensive... I feel a great deal like a lot of you did that posted here. I feel that when I have this done and I get down to either my goal weight (hopefully) or just a weight that is healthy and I won't have to deal with so many of these issues that I have been having for years now... that is all that matters to me.

I've been asked by a few people that I know this same question... "Why are you having this surgery?" And interestingly they have always known me to be positive in even a negative situation. I always try to look at the positive because if I looked at the negative then life would not be a learning tool in our own personal growth. It goes that way with this surgery for me. I have been getting my education. I never thought I could make grades like I have (I am 35 - 4 kids - work 2 part time jobs - sit on a board of Directors for a non-for-profit), I never thought I was as smart as I truly am. I learned by going to college that I can defeat the odds of anything that I want if only I set my mind into the positive. Granted I cannot beat the odds in this condition without help.. and so I am getting this surgery. This surgery is a tool... it is a tool that will work with all the other "tools" of life that will help me to grow to become the individual I always knew I could be within me. A person who could help others and to help make a difference in the community that many live. I want that opportunity. I want to be able to see my kids grow, to see my grandkids grow up, and hopefully one day to see my great grandkids. I want to be able to not live in constant wonder of if I will live past the age in which many in my family die (due mainly to obesity). Ps, yes, would be nice if we had the money to do it... but the truth is we don't and it doesn't matter that we don't. Many of us are doing this for one ultimate reason, besides just our health... and that is to live longer so that we may be able to spend more time with our loved ones (children, spouses, significant other, parents, siblings, etc.) and no matter what THEY do not (and should not) care if we have excess skin... but I guarantee that they care about our being unhealthy because of weight that could ultimately land us 6 feet under if we don't do something about it.

JMO - Ohhhh it felt so good to sit and write that out. I just sometimes enjoy being able to have moments of reflection of thinking out something completely. It makes me happy and I am even more happier with who I am because of moments like this. I've said this many times already and will say it one last time (probably will say it more but going to say it anyway) I am SOOO glad I found this forum.

Tammy

Interestingly, we've had about 8 mos since this was last discussed (on this thread) and I am not considering surgery for 2 reasons 1-money and 2-risk vs benefits factor. I am reasonably content with most of the way I "landed" and do find that the skin is tightening some over time. I don't have the serious abdominal hang I was afraid of and can dress to cover up the other less than pleasant areas. Granted, I could do a lot to look tons better and if I were younger and not in a long term relationship with my spouse I may feel differently. This is the most personal of decisions.

I have a 6-1/2 inch panni hanging in front. Bat wings on both arms and 3 rolls on one side of back and 2 rolls of sagging skin on the other side of my back. My thighs sag over my knee and have dimples. Hips sit on thighs. I can deal with everything sagging but the panni is causing my back to hurt like no other at times. My first Plastics consult was great. The surgeon told me that the panni would take off about 8 lbs and help my back. My breast could use a lift cause I have nothing but skin and very little tissue. I have to have ultra sound done after each yearly mammogram. If getting the plastics done would cost me up front $5680 (hospital and surgeons fees with 1 night stay). I have medicare and even with the right paperwork and coding the surgeons office would only accept the payment up front and medicare pay me back they said. Medically necessary and I have not that kind of money right now or non near soon. I cover up most of the troubled areas very good and wear longer tops. I love wearing jeans but zippers and the panni are uncomfortable. Wearing the sport suits (zipper jackets and or hoodies with the pants) do good for me mostly. Girdles and liners I hate to wear with anything but dresses during the summer.

Boy friendly that is a good thought. What I think is that what would be better, have all that skin full of fat, or have it sagging. If it's about looks wouldn't you want it "empty"? Just a thought from an extreme newby.
