| A friend from across the pond Hi everyone my name is Maya and I am from the UK. My date for surgery is soon and at the moment I am on the liquid diet (for me it is 4 weight watchers soups, 4 muller light yoghurts, a pint of semi skimmed milk and two vitamin tablets a day. I am soooo fed up of the soup already and I still have time to go. I was feeling quite low this morning wondering why exactly I am putting myself through this. Later in the day I was speaking to my dad and actually there are quite a few reasons as to why I should do this and I just have to remind myself of them whenever I feel like giving up. My mum also suggested that I look online for some support and true enough I found this website. I have been reading people's stories and its good to know there are people out there going through the same thing (if that doesnt sound too selfish). Anyway I will continue to read and hopefully there will come a time when I can put my before and after photos on here too. Luv and hugs to everyone across the pond Maya |

I feel for u. I just started this process about a month ago and found out today I have sleep apea and have to wear a c-pac to bed for 30 days before the dr. will approve this part for my surgery. I still have to go through my dr. visits and 1 more psych. eval. Then hopefully I will meet my surgeon and get my date. Sometimes I get very frustrated and worried that my ins. won't cover. I know I just need to keep positive and hopefully the time will fly by. I'll be praying for you! Remember.... it will all be worth it. Just think, in no time we'll both be on the losers bench!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day and keep positive! Angie

Hello Maya and Momof7 - it'll happen, just have to do a little hoop jumping but it will be worth it. And we always have all of us here to support each other. Good luck!

| Hi everyone thank you so much for all of your words of encouragement. I havent told many people the exact date (although a few friends know that it is happening at some point). I just want to get it over and done with and then surprise everyone by looking rather different to the last time they saw me. I just have a couple of questions for those who have gone through it - I am fairly shy and dont often go out and feel very awkward at social occasions as I look so different in my opinion to all my friends. If you were like me did you find your feelings of self worth improved ? Before I was the right age to start doing 'normal' things like going out with boys etc I started putting on weight and so have never been confident with the opposite sex. I have very few male friends and even those I dont see very often. I am hoping that the weightloss will mean I am less worried about being seen in public and might not think that if for some bizarre reason a bloke did approach me it wouldnt be because he had lost a bet and now had to chat up the ugliest girl in the place rather that he might actually want to get to know me. I can see from peoples messages that you have to go through a slightly different process in America but its very intersting to hear peoples stories. I will be a regular visitor to this site in the weeks to come. Has anyone sought counselling after the bypass process ? Surely there are people out there who still crave chocolate etc after the surgery how do u deal with it - will I ever be able to have choclate again? Hugs to all Maya |
