| I'm scared.....
Hello all...I am new to posting, but have been an observer of this forum for a few months. I am scheduled for my WLS on Tuesday, 2/19. I am very nervous and scared. My fear is of the procedure itself, not the life change. I have never had surgery before.
My question is...what did you do the night before to calm your nerves?
Thanks in advance for advice. This forum is wonderful!

Hi!
I believe it is pretty common to be a little nervous and scared. I was flying around the night before making sure the house was clean and all of the laundry was done just in case something had happened. I knew I was in good hands with my surgeon but I was still a little nervous. The morning of my surgery went uneventful...the people were very friendly and I had my daugther and mom with me. Once I was taken into the room to get ready I started crying my eyes out. I wanted my whole family to know that I loved them. Several hours later I was in my room and feeling no pain. My daugher and mom were waiting for me.
Things will go just fine so please hang in there.
Oh, I did take something the night before and the morning of to help relax myself. The doc said it was okay. I suffer with anxiety so I had some meds.
Good luck on Tuesday. There will be a lot of people on here waiting for your return. I have found that out.
Take care

my surgery is Thursday!
Take a deep breathe and focus your thoughts on the positives of the surgery. I have had surgery before and I also get a little nervous thinking about what I have chosen to do and I just close my eyes, think about all the people on this board and around the world that have chosen to have this surgery, they are alive and living a new wonderful life. So it can't be that bad!!
did you get a play by play from your surgeons office letting you know what will happen for pre op and post op? This is what I will experience:
preoperative:
they will take me to the preop room
I'll change into a hospital gown
They will band my arm
They'll put the things on my legs that blow up to aid circulation for blod clot protection
I'll meet the anestiesologist (spelled way wrong!)
They will start an IV and give the preop medications
When I see Dr. Genaw, I'll know it's time for surgery!
the surgery will last about 3 hours
After surgery Dr. Genaw will talk to my family
I'll be taken to post op recovery area and monitored
Then I'll be taken to my room
After a while my catherter will be removed
I'll be asked to walk
I'll be on a liquid diet
The dietician will be in to give me more info on my diet
I'll be discharged Friday or Saturday
I know this is long, sorry about that... just thought I would share what they told me to expect.

I went through the same thing. I'd never had major surgery before, and I too was nervous. I felt much better in the morning prior to surgery. I was looking forward to improved health, improved mobility, and a longer life. DAVE

| I've had a couple of surgeries, not this one, YET (March 3rd), but I can tell you based on my experience that everything will go just fine. The people that will be taking care of you are special people in my opinion, not everyone can do it. The should tell you what's happening, when it's happening and will be able to answer all your questions and sqealch your fears.

I had never had any type of surgery either, I had never even needed a filling in a tooth, so I was pretty scared. My blood pressure went up. And like someone else wrote, I cleaned the house the days prior as if I wasn't coming back. But for some reason the day before and the morning of I calmed down alot. It is what it is, the Doctors know what they are doing, something going wrong is very rare, and thinking about a new me in the future gave me the courage, plus my hubby was great, so relax, breath deep and welcome, we are all here for you.
