Normally, several things are involved. Blood lab work--several vials of blood are tested to make sure you're healthy for surgery. Upper GI, chest xray, consult with any doctor your surgeon feels necessary. I had a slow pulse, so I had an extra consult with a cardiologist. Also, a visit to a psychiatrist is normally asked for also. They want to make sure you fully understand what the surgery entails, and that you're capable of following instructions post op.

I'm so excited for you!!! It will be here before you know it....when you get there, the hardest part for me is always the IV...once that's going, you will remember LITTLE ELSE!!!
They weighed me....got me dressed in a gown...and next thing I knew, I was waking up in my room!!

Hi sweetie! If I remember correctly, for my PAT for that office they did more blood work, another EKG, talking with the nurse practitioner and the nurse. It includes signing all your consents and going over your meds and pre-op stuff. They give you an incentive spirometer to bring on day of surgery. Don't pee - check to see if they need a urine sample.
It's getting so close!!!

They also did some test...gosh I can't remember the name of it, where they checked my legs for any clots or something. It was like an ultra-sound on my legs. Also, my Dr. said anyone over 40 had to have a heart stress test done (his rules). Which I did. OMG girl.....it's almost here!!!!! I get so excited for you guys! I guess because 2 weeks before your own surgery..you get sooo dang nervous and scared (I did anyway) and you can't enjoy the "excitement" of it. So anytime one of "us" goes, I get to feel the excitement again...and again...and again. How awesome!!

I forgot all about it...but I had to go in for a chest x-ray pre-op too....other than that, just stop eating at noon the day before.....and not even water after midnite.
