Default Question for the Doc

Hi all,

Well my insurance finally got back to my doctor today with their requirements for approving the surgery. Aside from the normal tests, they're asking for some kind of test to determine if I have some kind of stomach ulcer. According to the coordinator that I spoke with at the doctor's office, this is something she's never heard of anyone asking for before. And apparently it's not a simple test as it requires being put out and having a scope stuck down my throat. Has anyone ever heard of this? Doc? She had a name for the kind of ulcer they were looking for. Of course I can't remember it now, but she said it's something that often happens AFTER the surgery.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hm. She may be talking about the H.pylori. It's a bacteria that's known to cause repetitive ulcers, and a while back, someone on the board wrote of testing postive for this, so had to get rid of the bug first before that person could get a date. If you have this bacteria, it may cause post op ulcers, which obviously would be yuck for you.

I had to have an upper endoscopy done by my surgeon and he looks
for ULCERS and for reflux issues.
I would think this test sounds great and easier to determine
this then a outpatient endcopic procedure.
GOOD LUCK!
(hope u dont mind my input here)

I had an EGD. They used a scope to look down my throat/esophagus and checked for any problems. It was done in the hospital and I was given something through a Hep lock to relax me. I remember NOTHING of the procedure and felt fine afterwards.

I too had the EGD as an outpatient. It was a quick procedure and I remember nothing. It is required by my surgeon. Good luck. S

Hey Sloopy...I also had this procedure done. It really was not that bad and didn't take that long. Afterwards I made sure that I got a copy of the pictures to take home and remember it by too....very cool. Good luck and congrats on being one step closer. I will have to read up on your blog to catch up since I haven't been on for a couple of days.
