Default Consult

So, I had my initial consult yesterday and all is hunky dory - doc said I am a great candidate for Gastric Bypass. WO-HOO! I have my psych eval next tuesday and providing I pass they will forward everything to the insurance for approval...which with federal BCBS they said it is running about 2-3 weeks now. I am so excited! (and a little nervous!)

Can't wait to join the losers bench!

Now...anyone have any advice on what protein shakes to try? I know some are really expensive and I don't really wanna go that route if I don't have to...but don't want anything icky either! I love chocolate....so am thinking that would definately be my flavor of choice.

Thanks!
Kim

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I only had the surgery a week ago. I bought a buttload of Isopure bottles pre-surgery, so I would be prepared immediately going home, and now they make me gag.

You should get a plethora of information on protein products by your nutritionist.

Everyone will tell you to NOT to buy too much of any protein source until you have tried it yourself. I like, and can use now, the Body Fortress powder at Wal-Mart. They have chocolate and vanilla. The vanilla blended with cold diet cranberry cocktail has been my breakfast. Unjury has a flavorless protein powder that is good, but as I am learning this week, cannot be put in HOT foods, only WARM foods (it gets gelatinous. yuk)

My opinion, Get a couple clear protein sources for the first week, when at home, but not more than 4 day's worth. Buy one or two containers of flavored protein powder for week 2 and beyond. If it is not good for you, then when you are back on your feet, you can buy something else.

Presurg, I liked isopure. Post surg, yukky
Presurg, I hated body fortress. Post surg, yummy.

whodothunk?

Sounds like you're off to a great start!!! I also never had a problem with the taste of the body Fortress brand at Wal-mart. I just can't afford all the "good" ones. I've had several free trial ones that were pretty good, but I just couldn't afford the cost of them. For a "treat" yes, but not daily use.

Congrats. I have had the worldwide pure protein. It tastes pretty good but a bit expensive. I think it was $2.29 a can.

Kathy, I just ordered some of the Vh1 smoothies. I hope they're good. They had lots of protein in them. That's why I ordered them. And the carbs are pretty low in them.

One thing, their shipping price was the cost of half my order. That's a lot.

It isn't as much protein as the others- but the only thing I liked was the sugar free carnation instant breakfast- chocolate. You can mix a scoop of powdered milk in it to up the protein content if you need to.

Congrats on the consult. Try samples if you can right now so you can figure out what you MIGHT like afterwards. Yes your taste will change. I swear we could all be Chefs after surgery with great Palates.
