Now that its all said and done I think I wish I had my recliner that I bought 3 months later, lol. I had a rough time in my bed so I propped on the couch. I still Use my body pillow,WHY?, I dont know. I kind of had a rough time parting with my fat clothes so I wore them until family members started to "complain"lol. Best of luck to u. Kathy

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Great idea about the body pillow--I can pick one up at Costco fairly cheap and then give it to my Chihuahua when I'm done (he is always creeping out of his little bed and hogging our boxer's big dog bed!).

I already bought a scale--oh no! My surgeon's nutritionist recommended that I lose the 5 pounds I gained between my initial consultation and appointment with her, so I'm trying to lose the last 2 before my July 2 pre-op. I will try not to weigh myself 50 times a day after surgery!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery, I to have been scheduled to have bypass on July 22. If your anything like me I am up and down about this decision. My biggest fear is whether or not I should go home when released from the hospital. I will be having the surgery 2 1/2 hours away from my home. Once released I had hoped to be able to go to the comfort of my own home. The problem is my husband works out of town and will not be home to help me. My question is will I be able to take care of myself on my own? I have read so many different postings and I'm not quite sure how bad the pain really is. I would appreciate any information on what to expect when it is over? I am a person who wants to be in control, so I find myself needing to know in advance what it will be like so I can plan for it.

Honestly there is no right or wrong answer here. I was one of the lucky ones. I was off pain meds from the time I left the hospital and slept so great in my own bed from the first night home. I was grocery shopping the day after I got home from the hospital. And was taking public transportation 3 days later. I was energized and each day I felt even better. So again, the aftermath is a mixed bag. Either way, just think of the final outcome and remember that if there is any pain, there are great meds and it only last for so long. Time passes so fast. I am a month out and it seems like forever ago.

Good luck! I hope you have a speedy recovery.

My surgeon told me I will not be able to drive for 1 week because of anestesia. Do you have someone to take you home? Can you get by on your own without needing to drive when your hubby is away?

Don't get new clothes...but *DO* spend time walking in the mall to not onlyl get moving, but to see what's out there! At least that's been my excuse for my last two weeks off of work!

I stayed at my moms Thursday-Sunday after having surgery on Wednesday. I slept much better in the recliner than in the bed. In either location, however, I needed help getting out and my mom or stepdad would also lift the lever thingy to help me recline back. Being flat on my back hurt a bit and hurt more to get up from. I think propping lots of THICK pillows (even use couch cushions, if you want) against a headboard would work, I think.

Good luck!

Didn't use my recliner to sleep in, but sat in it during the day to watch television at the beginning. I slept in my bed just fine, but I have one of those thick feather toppers on it...LOL.

I would hold off on the new clothes for a few weeks. It is amazing the range the "women's sizes" cover.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery and best wishes for an uneventfully surgery.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I to have finally received a date and mine will be July 22. I am having all kinds of emotions at this point, excited, scared, questioning whether I am doing the right thing etc.
I am trying to obtain as much information as I can before I go into surgery, so if anyone is willing to contribute to my learning I sure would appreciate it. I am unsure about how long you will have to stay in the hospital. I also live 2 1/2 hours away from where I am having surgery. I am hoping to go home when I am released, but the problem is my husband will be out of town working and I will be alone at home, will I be able to manage on my own? The biggest question I have is how bad is the pain after surgery?

How well you do, how much pain you have immediately post op is really going to depend on that individual, so I don't think anyone can put it down squat for you. Each person can only tell you how he/she him/herself did.

A couple of things to do pre op other than gather stuff.
Have a couple of pics taken, full length from the front and the side. Even if you don't like to have pics taken, you should have a pre op pic on hand so you can see yourself change, and compare yourself to the old you as you lose weight.
Also take measurements. Your waist and hips and also other circumfrences--neck, arm, wrist, thigh, ankle-- when the scal stalls, it is these inches that will fly away, so having your pre op body measurments is also a good tool for pre op/post op comparison.

I fought my mom on her request to have me stay with her after surgery and boy oh boy am I glad I did. I actually didn't want to leave four days after surgery because I just felt I wasn't ready to be on my own. I needed them to get me up out of the bed or recliner and darnit...it was nice to have them make my shakes the first couple of days too. As Doc said...everyone is different...but I never could've done it without my mom & stepdad.
