Question Getting ready for surgery

My surgery is 3 weeks away, and the manager in me is in overdrive about trying to plan for everything. I've read a number of your posts about following your surgeon's advice to the letter, and have decided to wait until my July 2 pre-op appt. to find out what liquids, protein, meds, vitamins, etc. I need to have on hand. But . . . any other recommendations about what I should try to get beforehand? Do I need clothes one size smaller or will I be able to wear my current size for 3-4 weeks after surgery (I'm planning to go back to work at 2.5 weeks out if all goes well)? I don't have a recliner--do I need to buy or borrow one in case I can't sleep in my bed? Any advice from you "veterans" would be most appreciated!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

There is just so much to think about, it starts to blow your mind, so ask as they come to you and by then you should be as set as you can be...

I don't think that you will need new clothes for work at just 2 1/2 weeks, and maybe go through your closet now and see if you have any other sizes in the back that you can use before you spend money on what will only be for a short time anyway. When it comes to clothes and post-op food, go in moderation: you lose weight faster than a new wardrobe warrents, and your tatses change constantly food wise.

As for the recliner, I didn't use mine, it was actually more uncomfortable (I had a hard time pushing the foot rest back/getting myself out, it pulled on my tummy too much). I personally did better propped up in bed, just needed my hubbys arms the first few days to give myself something to hold onto .
So you have to think about that one - see what the others suggest.

I do know this though, the two things that were wonderful to have right after were a rolling tray table (like in the hospital) and a toilet seat booster. My husband quick ran and rented them from the local pharmacy/hospital supply store) and they made a big difference.

Hope this helps

Good luck

if you have access to a recliner it might be worth it. i alternated between bed and recliner for around 2 weeks. as far as clothes, don't know that you will need anything new that quickly - but if there is a goodwill or other resell-it type store nearby you might start checking there for the next size DOWN!!! isn't that exciting

Thanks ladies! Great advice from everyone! I didn't even think about renting equipment/furniture I may only need for a short time--thanks for clueing me in. And I probably have stuff shoved way in the back of my closet that will work--after all, I've gone from a size 8 to an 18 in the last 3 years and probably have a couple items left in each size range.

I will say that I am in a Residence Inn in Houston recovering from my surgery last Wed. I would LOVE to have my recliner here with me! I though must admit that I sleep on my side and stomach so that is impossible, so therefore I would be much more comfortable in my recliner than trying to sleep on my back currently in the hotel bed which is a comfortable bed, but I WANT my recliner.

When was it that everyone felt okay to relax and roll around in bed, etc, without worrying that they were pulling something a way it should be going, etc, such as inside or the various Lap incisions, etc. I did get into a deep sleep and rolled over onto my tummy and of course woke up with some serious leakage from one site, but otherwise they have been great knock on wood.

I say that you will probably be wearing your same clothes for a few weeks...then you can get started on buying a FEW things while you are rapidly losing! I can honestly say that I have not bought anything its original price since my surgery...I only get to wear it a few times, so I dont want to spend the full amount on it. LOLOL I slept just fine in my bed, but I used a body pillow positioned under my back and right side to keep me on my side during the night. Good Luck to you.
I dont really know how long it took to be comfortable enough to sleep on your belly since I had a tube in my left side for 6 weeks in case there were any complications...I was never happier to see that thing go!!

Dont buy new clothes yet. If you dont have little containers to save food in get them. You will find out you become a very cheap date fast LOL. Meaning that anything you open you will be putting alot in the container for later and later and later. Do not go and buy a scale. This is my own advice. If you do you will drive your self crazy with it. LOL.
