Default Will I be able to drink any carbonated sodas after surgery?

Because I am a huge Diet coke addict! Now after surgeries in the past...I haven't been able to drink coke cause it tastes absolutely horrible and that lasts for about a month or two. However...the craving and desire for diet coke comes back! And in the mean time I usually drink 7up or mountain dew or root beer.

So...will I be able to drink my beloved diet coke after surgery or will I lose that pleasure forever?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Sorry to tell you but carbination is a no no. Something about it that makes pouchy expaned. that's the last thing you want.

I loved diet Pepsi and once in a while I miss it yet but have never given in. They accually had me stop during my 6 months of pre-op dieting. I find that I love other flavors of things now.

Oh dear that will be hard for me! But if I have to give it up...I will.

I have had SIPS....teeny TEENY sips of my daughter's diet coke since my surgery 10 months out. I did miss my diet coke. Just not that big deal anymore.

I find that the weight loss is far more enjoyable than the soda is missed. Trust me...I never thought I would see myself writing that! LOL

If, after surgery, you are DYING for the flavor of diet coke, open the can and let it go flat, and drink it uncarbonated. Remember to drink twice as much water to make up for the dehydration of the caffeine.

Thank you. That was going to be my next question: could I have some diet coke if it was flat? LOL

Avoid carbonated drinks if you can, it isn't kind to your pouch.
You should also avoid it, because often, carbonated drinks will be the trigger to cravings of other "junk" food.

Mu surgeon doesnt reccommend it. I am just about 2 years out and I have not touched a diet coke since the day before my surgery.
and let me tell you I was a HUGE addict of it. I would say I drank probably at least 6 or 7 a day and that didnt include sometimes getting a fountain drink one from McDonalds. And I admit that was one of my biggest concerns was the thought of giving up my diet coke. But like I said I have not touched it and I dont miss it.
I love water now and my tastes buds have changed.
You can do it.

My doc said anything carbonated is a no no. Before surgery I drank about 6 diet Sunkist per day. I truely thought I would miss it but I don't. I think my taste buds have changed also. I love water with the sugar free Kool Aid added to it. I drink about 100 oz of it per day.

Diet Dew was my drug of choice. I could down a 44 oz. kidney-flusher on the way to work, drink a couple of 24 oz. bottles from my office fridge during the day, and polish off another 44 ouncer on the way home. I quit cold turkey about a month pre-op and haven't looked back. I see it now and it has no associations for me. It's like it never happened.

I've had no carbonation since then. I don't miss it a bit. This surgery does funny things to us! Some say that they rewire our taste buds while we're under!

Good luck! You can do things with WLS that will plumb amaze you!!
