Red face What should I expect from the psych evaluation?

I am meeting with the psychologist on Thursday. I talk with her for 45 minutes and then have to take a 2 hour test. Can anyone fill me in on what I should expect? Any do's or don'ts to help me?

Thank you!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

DO - be yourself, calm, unruffled, dignified.

DON'T - be aggressive, cocky, defensive.

DO - answer questions fully and honestly

DON'T - try to hide negatives, they're going to come out anyway.

DO - believe that this is part of a well-orchestrated process designed to help identify concerns before they become problems.

DON'T - resent having to jump through this hoop. We all did at one time or another.

My psych meeting took a half-hour with a complete stranger who cared deeply about my welfare for $150- an hour. Peanut's took several visits and additional documentation. Different docs, different standards. Same end result. RNY.

DO - remember the end goal!! Keep the process alive and check another box on your to-do list.

i have no suggestions. what daperf is saying is true though.be honest and look at it as an opportunity. when done correctly you can see the benefits of this step later on in your process.

mine was 3 questions and it took me longer to fill out the paperwork than to be "evaluated". i was asked 3 questions. 1. do you understand what this urgery does? 2. do you have a history of depression? 3. do you understand that this cannot be reversed? (or something to that extent) and that was it. 15 minutes. maybe less...but they sure did bill the heck outta my insurance...

Ditto exactly what the Perfesser said. My test was basically exactly what you described. Once I got to the two hour test the time flew by. I know that sounds strange but the questions on the test are so thought provoking. Just be honest and like Perfesser said the truth will eventually come out anyway so be sure to answer honestly.

Mine was a great experience. She went over what my expectations were and some of the "problems" others have had after surgery. Her biggest concerns of anyone having the surgery is the post weight loss image of one's self. She explained that we tend to see ourselves as still heavy because we have had that mind set for so long. She has had several patients that have actually become anorexic since surgery. I can see that happening. I am down so far from where I was, but still can't fathom the true amount of weight I have lost!! I still see myself as a lot heavier than I am. Another concern of hers was that many become alcoholics. They tend to use alcohol as a substitute for food. I have never been a drinker, so that was not a concern of mine at all. I did so well during the session that she did not even have me take the test. She did not feel it was necessary as I was totally prepared for the new life in store for me. I know I have everyine here to thank for that!!! Reading everyone's posts prepared me more than I could have ever been on my own or even through info from my doctor. Just go in and be yourself, be confident and secure in your decision and I am sure you will do great!!! Good luck with it!!!

Just be yourself and be honest. That's your best weapon.

Wow, what a difference it can be. Mine too spent the two hours actually talking with me about the surgery and what I expected to gain from losing the weight. She asked some pointed questions about family and how I felt about myself and problems I have had and how I deal with them. I just answered honestly and totally enjoyed the experience. The "test" was a bunch of questions about the surgery, did i know exactly what the surgeon was going to do, did i know I would need vitamins for life, etc.
