Default Needing some words of encouragement

I think I'm needing a few words of encouragement. I've been pretty "calm" over the past 7 months -- and now that my surgery is actually happening I'm starting to get REALLY nervous. I feel consumed by everything that is about to take place and although I'm really excited I just need some reassurance. My surgery is NEXT friday (July 24th) and I'll be finished up my last 2 appts this week -- pre-op with PCP and pre-op with surgeon.

I guess all the worry is about the future and my success. Can too much weight loss cause strain on the heart? I mean I guess it's kind of obvious that carrying all this weight is bad for my heart. I guess I've just been positive for so long that now I'm being negative and scaring myself. My biggest fear is having the surgery and ending up worse off that what I started but my DREAM is to have a completely successful surgery, healthy recovery and a new start to life. My surgeon is wonderful, her reputation is wonderful, her results are even more wonderful. Her complication rate is less than the national average - everyone I know who has had her perform the surgery is doing wonderfully. I just want this SO badly, I truly want a new start with my family -- and my beautiful 5 year old daughter. I'm scared, I'm happy -- I'm a ball of mixed emotions.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Relax what you are feeling is totally normal. I know I sure felt that way. I was sure I would be the one that it would not work on. I guess it comes from so many failed attempts in the past. I would lose wt only to gain more back. This surgery has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. It has saved my life. I can now do things that I have not done in years and only take medicine for thyroid now. I now live life not just let it pass me by. It is not the easy way. It does take work and dedication to what your doctor tells you to do. Good luck it will be fine. When you start flying through the sizes you will know it was right for you. I will save you a seat on the losers bench.

Big hugs to you......I'm so scared myself. My surgery is August 31st. And I've been down this road before. I was banded in 2006 and now I'm having the revision to RNY. I also worry about my health "after" the surgery...maybe they'll find something now that they couldn't find before, what if I fail after going through all this, etc., etc., etc. I know it's ridiculous because my health now is not great and the surgery will make my quality of life better, but I still worry about everything.

But I'll say to you that's it's completely normal to be feeling so many mixed emotions. We, as mothers especially, worry about EVERYTHING! You'll be fine.

I think that darn roller coaster ride you're on is worse than the surgery itself! We all had some degree of fear. I suggest you keep yourself busy getting your home ready, doing all those aggravating chores that you won't be able to do post op for a while. I was really glad I did some cooking ahead and put it in the freezer so that it would be less work for me post op. Keep busy!

Relax everything will be fine.
You'll be living a healthier life before you know it.

You might want to change your surgery date on your stats it says your surgery is
July 10/09 not July 24th
Best of luck to ya!!

Ahhh, the roller coaster emotions. They are quite normal
You're having the ride of your life.
You will be fine, trust your surgeon and yourself.

I agree with Clancy - I had more emotional issues in the two weeks before the surgery than I've had in the 8 months since! Keep busy! Good luck!

It took me 6 months to get approved for my RNY and the week before surgery I had the same kind of thoughts and reservations. I am one week post op now and so grateful that I persevered and went forward one step at a time. I just kept focusing on my health and that I NEEDED to do this in order to have a life that was more than what I had been experiencing. The thing that helped me the most was I had ALL kinds of information about what to expect from my surgeon, dietician, etc. I think that made all of the difference for me. And that wonderful Serenity prayer...god grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know that difference...I just kept saying that 'courage' line over and over whenever I got scared. Good luck!! Lisa in Dallas
