| VERY Frustrated!
Ok, had my weigh-in this morning and I lost 3lbs. Since my home scale says 6lbs lost, I'm pretty ticked off. At this rate, I won't lose the 10% in time and I don't know how I could do more to stay on track with this damn liquid diet. I'm so upset!
So my weight has been as follows:
Week 1 (actually 3 days): +1lb
Week 2: -8.6lbs
Week 3: -2.4lbs
Week 4: -3lbs
Total weight loss = 12lbs (not even half way to the 31lbs I need!)
I REALLY don't want to keep doing this medifast. If I wanted to MEDIFAST, I would do that INSTEAD of WLS, but that's not what I'm choosing. This insurance thing makes me SO mad. So I'm fat, and have trouble losing weight, so now I have to PROVE I can lose weight so I can have weight loss surgery!!!! It doesn't make any damn sense!
Ugh - can you tell I'm having a bad day. THIS SUCKS
-Kath

Medifast does suck. I'm not going to sugar coat it. They don't want you to prove you can lose weight. They want to prove that even though you are following a specific diet, you still can't lose weight. They do the liquid diet so that your liver will shrink. Maybe you can ask your surgeon if you can do the Medifast and one lean and green meal. It may help you lose more. Also are you drinking enough. Water is extremely important when doing Medifast.

You are also experiencing what we all go through right after the surgery. You body is used to a certain amount of calories every day. For a month now you have been giving it less calories than it needs to survive and it's normal reaction is to shut down calorie usage to the bare minimum. It's convinced that it's starving (which it is) and so it will burn only the minimum fuel (ie: fat) needed to survive. Eventualy it gives in and starts burning the fat.
The best thing you can do is stay on a schedule. Eat at the same time every day, and break it up into 6 meals instead of four. The body will eventually realize that it's going to get fed on a regular basis and decised that it's OK to burn more fuel because it knows it's going to get more fuel in a couple of hours.
In the between times, lots of fluids to flush out the wastes.

Water is a good idea. I certainly have not been doing enough of that. Thanks for the suggestion.
This sucks. I just want the 10% to be gone and the surgery to be tomorrow. I'm done proving that I suck at weight loss on my own. I know I do!
Thanks for listening!
Kathy

The journey on this side of the surgery seems to be long. Each pound seems to hang on till the last minute before going away. It is a real pain. But realize that after the surgery this will seem easy. You will think "why was it so hard then" Keep up with it, it is good training for after. We have all felt this way before . Hang in there.

Is life after surgery so tough that *this* will seem easy? I'm nervous that if this feels so difficult, that life after surgery may be unbearable!
Do you have to fight for every pound after surgery, or does it come off easier than now?
Wow, I wish SOMETHING about this was easy!
Thanks,
Kathy

Pre-op requirements can be nasty. Try to drink as much water as you can, walk as much as you can (this is an excellent stress reliever), and keep plugging away. Yes, the difference in scales can be frustrating. Nothing you can do about that. Hang in there. The end result will be worth the preliminary stuff.

Know, during this time, that your liver is shrinking so the docs have more room to work in the OR. Hang in there...you are not alone.
Keep posting. Hang in there.

In some ways it IS very easy to lose after the surgery. One, most of us don't feel hungry at all and most foods don't even smell good to us. Two, we get full on just a tiny bite of something so you don't feel like you're deprived.
The hard part is the mental part. The "not eating" part is a breeze.
