It's so interesting to see how everyone's body reacts differently!
I have a 100% desk job. I had surgery 2 weeks ago, and took that first week off as vacation. I had asked my boss for permission to work from home the 2nd week, and did tell her I was having surgery (though not what kind). She did tell me to pursue short-term disability just in case, but I knew I would be fine enough to either come in or continue working from home, if needed, past 2 weeks.
In my situation, I could have easily come back into the office last Monday (1-week post-op). I have not experienced any tiredness out of the normal since day 7, have been off pain meds since day 4. However, I credit that to having a 13-month old who is not consistent at sleeping through the night so I'm used to being tired! I also have been lucky enough that my husband has decided to eat healthier as well (since my pre-op diet week), and does not expect me to cook a dinner every night (I do cook for the kids, though).
Also, I just had a c-section last year. This, by far, was waaaaaay easier than my c-section. If I had needed open bypass, then I know I would have been "down" at least 3 weeks.
Talk to your doc, have all "just in case" scenarios worked out and make sure to definitely rest (but do your walking!) in that first week. Only you truly know your body. Good luck!!
