Hello everyone--

I have been reading all your questions and advise, all very helpful. I will find out my surgery date Feb 21 I am excited. I am hoping to have it sometime in March or the beginning of April.

I have so many thoughts going threw my head, I don't know where to start. Here I have been preparing and reading for about a year, and I thought I was fine. Now I am feeling like I am so unprepared is this normal?

I am 224 lbs and I am 5'3 my goal is to get down to 135 to 140. Does this seem reasonable? I would love to be closer to 125 but I am trying to realalistic. I am also worried about excess skin? Any suggestions on what to expect? I know I will have it but I worry how much. I heard there is away to get insurance companies to cover a tummy tuck --- but how?

My biggest fear is the new way of eating? I am afraid of the dumping sydrome.

I guess I am looking for advise and any suggestions anyone is willing to share. Please feel free to email me or post. I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting scared and excited if that makes sense
Thanks-- azeeb

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, azeeb, thank you for joining us.
Your roller coaster emotions are quite normal.
Just be sure that you are doing this for yourself, not anybody else, and you'll be fine.
((((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

It is perfectly normal to have all of those questions. I had many before my surgery. Most importantly, listen to your doctor's protocol. As far as the excess skin, I wouldn't worry about that right now. You will have some, yes, but the way I look at it, noone knows what is under the clothes. For the most part, there comes a time when you feel good enough to realize that fact. You are so amazed by the weightloss, that you don't think as much of the extra skin. I, to, have extra skin, but hearing people tell me that I need to put on a few pounds, never makes me think alot about the extra skin under my clothes. To them, I am called by some as the bean pole. LOL LOL LOL You will also learn the new eating habits, believe it or not. I never thought I would. Slowly, but surely, the habits stuck with me. I don't know if you are a stress eater or not, but I am. Some days are REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY hard for me, and yes, I fall off the wagon. It's the point, that you have to pick yourself up and start again. CHIN UP! With the dump syndrome, everyone is different. I, personally, don't know what that is like. I have never had it, and no food since surgery, hasn't agreed with me. THANK GOD! LOL HANG IN THERE KIDDO, we are all here for you.

PERFECTLY NORMAL to get jitter on the journey!
GLAD you found the web site just ask away and everyone
will be glad to answer and express from their own personal
journies its a great place to discover.

We all loose different and carried the weight differently so the skin issues can vary from person to person just like looseing amounts doo.
A far as dumping ...hate to advice 60 percent dont dump and about 40 percent doo. I personally wish i did dump. BUT unless i eat the surgar on an empty stomach in a small amount i do fine. IF i over indulge i get some mild symptoms.

We all respond differently to food post op....i have some funky left over issue that any meat left over tends to get me sick....i finally now 18 months out do salad took me long time on that....but pretty much eat most things just in smaller amounts.

ANYWAY i look forward to getting to know you thru you posts!
feel free to write me anytime weather in the forums, in a PM message or an email i would be more then happy to respond!

WELCOME to the board

Welcome azeeb! Your questions and fears are quite normal. You will find a lot of good advice on this site. Sometimes it's just nice to know that other people are experiencing the same fears, doubts, and thoughts that you are.

It's always nice to hear from the people who are farther along on their journey and are doing so well. I am only 7 wks post op and can identify with all the things you mentioned.

BTW, I haven't experienced the dumping thing yet. I believe it was doscanae on this site that mentioned that only about 40% of post op patients dump.

Good luck to you. Keep us posted! And take some pre op pictures! They can be painful now, but you will be glad later.

As you have read from all the others...what you are going thru is perfectly normal. We've each been in the same place as you...preparing, reading...etc - and then feel like - "What am I doing?"

I think your goal sounds MORE than reasonable....
About the "skin"...everyone is different. I really really thought that I'd have "globbed over the brastrap flab"...and really- I'm pleasantly surprised. My before & afters <----link check out my 'back shots' - I'm excited...my excess skin is there...but NOT as bad as I thought. Don't worry about how to fund your Tummy tuck yet....you will be sooo thrilled when the weight is off...you may not even want to bother with it!!

Honestly, this was MY fear as well...my downfall was and the hardest thing I dealt with....along with my fear that I would be the only one this surgery didn't work for!
Don't worry...just follow your heart! God Bless....

Hi Azeeb,
Yep-we've all walked in your shoes before. We may live all over the U.S. and overseas, but, our emotions and worries are the same. I started out at 213 at my very first doctor's appt. RNY on 8/7/06 and weigh 148 today, less than 6 months later. I'm the same height as you. Your goal is definitely realistic. I hope to get down to 125-130, although my husband thinks that is too low. Everyone says (including my surgeon) that my weight loss will stop where my body is comfortable at, so guess that remains to be seen. I'm not too bothered by extra skin anywhere else, but my neck looks pretty hangy. I'd like to get that tightened, but I know it would be self-pay. Good luck!
