Question Recovery

I am planning on having the surgery in May. I am trying to figure out how much time it will take me before I return to work. I have an office job and I am having the surgery done lapriscopically ( I know that is spelled wrong). Does anybody out there have any advice.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Kimberly,

I had lap rny too. I took a month off (short term disability). The surgeon suggested a minimum of 2 week and recommended 4 weeks. I'm glad I did the 4 weeks. I don't think I would have been ready at 2 weeks. I also work in an office, but I would have been too tired.

Good luck!!

Another thing that may help with taking 4 weeks if possible is that you will be more used to your eating schedule, drinking schedule, and maybe will be less tempted to do things that are a no no. Talk to your surgeon and they will give you a good idea of what to expect as far as time off. I heard from my surgeon that two weeks is good, but that may be different for you. A good amount may depend on how good of a healer you are and how understanding of an employer you have. Good luck and keep us posted. The support here has been a life saver for me. I am having mine on April 4th. I will let you know how mine goes after I have it.

Recovery time varies from person to person. Generally they say 2 weeks you should be able to return to an office job, but remember you will feel tired and you will be trying to adjust to your new eating habbits. If you can take 4 weeks i would recomend it. Also remember not everyone who goes in laproscopic stays that way. I am hoping that this is not the case for you but some require to be changed over to open during the procedure so you may actually need more time to recover. Just remember that this is major surgery and you really need time to heal. Best of luck to you!

I hope everyone heard what LisaMarie said...... Just because you go in lap, doesn't mean you might not come out open.

I have seen this a lot more time than you might expect. I find that when the surgeon tell that to lap patients, they only kind of hear it.

For this reason if two weeks is all you can take, I recommend that you let your supervisor or whoever know the real risk of a longer recovery.

Having a open GB is by no means the end of the world. Remember that nine years ago when I had mine, everbody had open.

Great topic... I loves it

I think its best to follow your doctors instructions as to when its okay
to return to work.
FROM what i hear we all experience different afterwards.
I did return to my work 3 days earlier then my surgeon wanted
but i get a nap time in my day and work inside my home!

SO follow your doctors instructions!
AND we all recover differently. FOR me this surgery
i recovered easier then my c section

Good point Craig. I remember when I had my first kid everybody was so down on c-sections and everyone was telling me how hard and awful they were and how natural was definately the way to go. All this accomplished was making me terrified when the doctor told me that we would have to have an emergency c-section with my son and made me feel like a failure for not being able to have him naturally. I also had to have my daughter by c-section, and even now and then I get jealous when people start to talk about their childbearing stories and how they were able to have them naturally. I have finally come to the conclusion that the important thing isn't how I got them, but that they came and the end result was beautiful and healthy babies. I am supposed to have a lap rny, but I know that if it turns into an open rny, I will just have to focus on the fact of the results being me being beautiful and healthy. I have faith that the doctor will do what is best for me and that God will help me recover from either procedure, but I am glad that you brought that up Craig. You are our wise and fearless leader.

First of all, good luck with your surgery. We will keep you in our prayers during this time.

Second, I second what everyone else is telling you. I, too have an office job, returned to work in 2 weeks but I wish I would have taken an additional 2 weeks off. Not so much for the healing issues but for the mental issues that go along with it.

Good Luck and Congrats!
