Default Will be seeing my surgion for the 1st time

I will be seeing my surgion for the 1st time in June. Im approx 400lbs at 6ft 5in. Ive been doing alot of reading on WLS and I understand why you have to see a nutritionist, bloodwork and everthing else. But I dont quit understand why a person has to see a sychologist. Also I would appretiate some tips or dos and donts before you see your surgion for the 1st time.
Thanks Alot Jerry

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.

A psychological evaluation is done to see if you are mentally fit for the surgery.
Weightloss surgery will require you to change your lifestyle drastically, and can put a lot of mental strain on you, so the drs want to be sure you can make it through the changes.

((((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Jerry, go through as much as you can through this board, do as much research as you can, talk to as much people around you who have had this surgery, and keep a list of all the questions that come to your mind.
Ask your Qs here, but keep that list for your visit to the surgeon as well, and ask away there, too.

Whatever you decide, decide what to do for yourself, and not decide because others tell you to do what or not. People on this board who have gone through the changes would do it again if they had to, because of the improvement in their lives despite some difficulties that they encountered, so everyone will support your decision whatever you decide, but with people in real life around you, you probably will find those who are very much against the surgery, and will say lots of bad things about it. You need to see them through these things, whether they are saying because they don't know nor understand well about the surgery itself, and the whole of the changes brought around, or whether they are saying so because they love you and are very scared because they may lose you, again because they don't know nor understand enough about this surgery.

You will undoubtedly go through roller coaster emotions, so come here to vent as well as to ask Qs, we are all here for you.

Can you tell me what I can probably expect on my 1st visit ? ie Do they come on to me because I am so heavy, I feel that the doctor will judge me for being so large.
I once had to have my appendects removed, and the surgeon looked at me almost in disqust and said...you know you are really obiese. Ever since then I felt negative about Drs. Dont get me wrong...Im going for this but I kind of feel a little nervous . I need alittle input on the things most WLS Drs ask plus some encouragement.
Sorry for being a pain.....Jerry

Awwww, do you think the drs who do this surgery will come on to you, and to all their patients, for the matter? These surgeons chose to specialize in bariatric surgery because they believed that it will help you, and that every single patient they have are all very special people who need the chance they can help give you. They are there for you because they support you and your decision, wish to give you the hope for a healthy life, not to judge you for your looks now. They are concerned about the person you are inside, no matter how you look. The first thing they will do is to make you feel easy and comfortable with them, so they can work with you, what is the best thing for you. If you read posts of those who just met their surgeon for the first time, you will see that everyone says they felt at ease with the surgeon. No doubt, that will be the case for you, too.

(((HUGS JERRY)))))
i think MOST bariatric surgeons are very sensitive to our feelings,
and are experienced with handling us just fine and putting us to ease.
They know from experience the self esteem we lack and how we feel
on the inside.
I know for me the first surgeon i went to after meeting and hearing
about him was not the one for me. HE didnt have the bed side manner
that i required going thru such a major surgery. BUT when i went to the next surgeon i know this was the right surgeon, office staff to go thru
procedure with. EVERYTIME i went to the office i felt like the most important patient each time and that meant alot to me.

MY surgeon requires his patients to first attend an information seminar.
WERE you learn so much about the types of surgeries and his practice.
AFTER this information seminar is his support meetings and they let the
new folks stay to ask the post ops questions.
AFTER that you schedule your first one on one consult with the surgeon and for me it was wonderful, he was thorough and we talked about the options that were best for me. I walked out of that office with a list
of pre op clearances that i needed so he sent me on my way to get the ball rolling.
IT was a wonderful appointment and i was given alot of information and things to get done.

HOPE a little about my journey helped!!!!
good luck and fill us in when you go!!!!!
hugs
