Default I am New and will have WLS Surgery at the end of this month

Hi,
I live in Los Angeles and I am due to have my surgery at the end of this month at Cedars-Sinai. From what I know this hospital is GREAT! Originally, I was going to do the Lap-Band, but then changed my mind last minute to Gastric Bypass. I thought because I am a huge FAN of sugar and chocolate that the bypass may be more well-suited for me.
Anybody know if there is a huge difference and is Bypass more extreme? Am I making a mistake by changing?
Thanks!
Yvette in L.A.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Lap band and bypass have each their good and bad points.
Statistically, the amount of weight you lose with lap-band is less than that of gastric bypass, and also the regain rate is a little bit higher than bypass.
This is because of the basic nature of the characteristics of each surgery as well as the physiological (meaning chemically functional) changes that take place as a result of the surgery.
Whichever you choose, it is for you, and only for you to decide, as you are the one who is making this life changing journey.

((((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Thanks for your quick response. I was a bit unsure, but after reading storeis from others on this site; I have come to conclude that I have 100% made the right choice for me.
I truly appreciate a site like this exists, so that I can read more about it and learn from others experiences.

HI yVETTE!!!!!
welcome to the forums and im glad you found this site
just before your surgery.

I know for me i was at first wanting the gastric banding but after consulting with my surgeon we felt for me to loose what i had to
with a start weight of 310 i needed the gastric bypass surgery.

I will tell you 60 percent of gastric bypass patients dont dump from sugars and 40 percent doo no telling were you will fall. SO dont think that bypass will always not allow you to eat sugars without becomeing violently sick.
I know for me i dont dump but i also feared dumping and didnt mess with that area for over 12 months.
FOR me thought gastric bypass has helped me with my problem with portions. I feel that birth defect of mine is fixed and now i eat normal
sized portions. SO that for me has helped me tremendously.
GOOD luck in chooseing but from what i see at my surgeons office there both wonderful options for weight loss.
HUGS
and i look forward to getting to know you thru your post.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

You LOOK GREAT ~ Congrats!

Like you said; we will just have to wait and see; most importantly it will act as a tool to aid in portion control.

THANKS 4 the encouraging words!
Yvette

Hi Brenda,
Chapstick - Great to know- I wouldn't have brought it otherwise.
Thank you thank you. It makes sense.
