Default pre-op diet and nutrition

I am incredibly eager to have the surgery after years of dieting with no success. I just found out today that I still have a 6 month period of prep where I have to prove to the doctors that I can improve my diet and exercise. The whole reason I want to have the surgery is because NONE of this stuff has worked in the past! I feel like I have already jumped through sooooo many hoops to get to this point and now I have to keep jumping just to get approved for surgery!! I am beyond frustrated!
Is this typical? Any advice on how to get through? Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi ya consuler.......... who is requiring that. Your Dr or the insurance? If its your insurance surely your PCP has documentation that you have done this already for 6 months? If its your Dr. that must just be his standard before doing anything. Oh and welcome honey I almost forgot that !!!

I will add hear my surgeon required me to loose 10 percent of my weight to get a date!!!!!!
THATS his requirment to reduce the fatty liver to make it easier for a
lap surgery as well as he feels pre op weight loss reduces the
risk for complications!

Welcome to the board, thank you for joinig us.
As frustrating as this may seem, you will need to make a lot of changes with your eating habits--more than you actually realise, probably--so this kind of requirement will enable you to prepare better for the changes. The surgeons who incoporate this into their programs know/have experienced that they get better results with the prep period than without.
Another thing about this being frustrating--the whole of this surgery is actually about patience and being patient. Your weight isn't gone when you wake up from the anesthesia, it only sets you at the start line of a life long road. When you look back, once you've had the surgery, and lost your excess weight, you'll see that the time has actually flown by, and that you were able to adjust better because of this prep time.

((((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.
