For someone that is scared to death of which surgery to get this defiantely put some fears to rest. I am scared to death of this one particularly because I would have to stop eating damn near everything I do eat and start eating things, that I do like but don't eat much of. It would be very hard to me at least to think of a variety of meals to eat.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Well, Hoss, if you aren't ready and willing to totally transform your relationship with food, you might as well quit now. WLS can only work if you change all the old ways that brought you here in the first place. There's no other way.

The rules work. If you follow them for life, you will have life-long success. If you have reservations in the back of your mind, you have a period of time in your pre-op preparations to resolve them. Yes, you will have to stop eating all the crap that made you fat. Yes, you will have to start eating good stuff in appropriate amounts. From where you are now, there is no easy way to get to where we are. Any method of extreme weight loss will be as hard as anything you've done in the last few years (at least!)

Long-term success is 90% mental, 10% surgical. Your best weight loss tool is in your brains, not your belly. Be 100% sure and certain that this is what you want, and don't do it if you don't want it worse than you've ever wanted (insert favorite food addiction here).

If you think it'll be hard to eat this way, go to our Recipes sub-forum, explore what's there, and start using some of these dishes in your regular menu. You'll probably find that you like them, and it'll help you form good habits prior to your surgery (whenever and whatever it may be). Getting the family on-board is a good thing, too!

Good luck, brother!!

I have a question... I've read that for about a month post-RNY there will be a complete loss of apetite. Any idea why this is so? I would have been glad if its going to remain that way! What's even more puzzling is how is it restored? Anyone?

Why do you think you would have a voracious appetite immediately post op? You just had major surgery that completely rerouted your digestive system. That disrupts everything, including the nerveway that sends signals between your stomach/pouch and the brain on the status of the stomach/pouch. You will get a lot of false signals--some people do feel *hunger* which actually is what's known as head hunger, the brain thinks you're hungry even if your pouch is full.
As recovery continues, and the swelling of all the places that were cut and reconnected goes down, and the sutures merge and become firm, as the nerves that were severed and disrupted reconnect and adjust and align to the new connections and layout, your brain and pouch reconnect with each other, regain the ability to send/receive the correct message from each other.
