Talking Jumped the last Hoop-Ready for a Date

Finally, my insurance okayed my surgery and I just jumped through the last hoop trying to get to the surgery. Next week they will give me a surgery day. I am so scared, but so excited, I just don't know what to do.
I need help though, I don't understand how to read the back of the food products or what to look for. I know its all about grams but not sure how to read it. Can anyone explain it all to me?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery date!! Unfortunately I can't give you any advice as I am a pre-surgery newbie myself...but I wish you the best in your surgery and recovery!

Your dietitian/nutritionist should be able to help you out with what you are looking for on the nutrition labels.

Congrats on making it through all the hoops! As far as reading labels I agree with getting the help of someone through your surgeons office. It seems that every doctor has their own guide lines. For instance some may want you to go by the carb count or like mine I'm to look at the sugar content. (no more than 6 grams of sugar per 4 oz serving. Staying with low fat or non fat is a good thing and also keep away from overly processed foods. Some say that if you can't identify what the ingredients are than don't eat it! Good luck on your journey and let us know when your big day is. I'll be saving a spot on the losers bench for you!

I don't talk to my nutritionist until after the surgery, I am just scared I won't understand it. I am so scared of screwing up and gaining my weight back.

Congrats on finishing jumping the hoops.
Don't worry too much right now. If you're not sure how to read lables, take along some can or protein bar with you when you see the nut, and ask her/him to explain how to read the lables. That' probably the easiest way to learn.

I am stunned to hear you don't see a nutritionist til after surgery... but everyone program is different. Your surgeon must give you a food list...you will try new foods in stages ... so be sure to get all of that in writing now so you can plan ahead.
You didn't give many details...post your info so we know more about you.
WHat kind of surgery??

I had to see a nutritionist before my insurance would even approve my surgery & then on my pre-op day, my surgeons office had a surgery info class that lasted an hour that was taught by a former patient/nurse in their practice as well as an hour class taught by one of the nutritionists in their practice that explained every phase of their post-op diet. Every patient has to attend these classes at their pre-op appt. As well as meeting with the nutritionist at every check up.

I have seen the nutritionist now. My surgery is October 11, 2011. I think I have figured out what I am doing regarding my diet. I was starting to get scared about it, but I think I have it down. I just can't wait. Now I am worried about the liquid diet 10 days prior to surgery, what if I can't do it for 10 days? OMG will they not go through with the surgery?
