| Frustrated and feeling guilty about it
Hi folks,
I went to my second nutrition appointment today. I am down 18 1/2 pounds. which is a YAY...
But even though I am following everything to a "T"... and even though my insurance has no pre-requisites as far as weight loss (no 5%, etc)... and even though they have no requirements as far as how many nutrition visits I have to have since I already have 6 months of documented weight loss attempts...
Despite all that, my nutritionist wont clear me until I have one more visit with her. WAY the hell next month! Which puts my surgical consult to probably the end of next month. Which means I can't do surgery til after the holidays...
And I feel frustrated about all that and, honestly, a bit angry!
But also guilty because I know some of you waited SOOOOOO long to be approved...
*sigh* Sorry... I just needed to vent.
Peace and blessings to all.

Heck you can manage that long I know it seems like a long time off but with the holidays coming up you will keep busy, and go ahead and keep up the good eating habits through the holidays, if you can do that you are ahead of the game!! I had several delays with different things that kept coming up and ended up waiting 8 months, hang in there and keep up the good work you are already doing!

Your feelings are totally normal. A year from now, you'll remember it all with a smile on your face. |

Thanks Nell and Doc S. I feel some better now, but am still frustrated. I did go for a weigh-in at my PCP today and am down another 2 pounds. So thats a big plus. I think maybe I am afraid that, like all the other times, this wont last until surgery...

I'm sure it does seem like forever away, but you've made great progress so far. And yes some of us have waited years. I'm going to surgery on 11/15 after starting the process in 2009. And others have waited longer. You will get to surgery, and your life will move on. Just take some time now to get everything in order and enjoy the holidays.

I SOOOOO had that happen to me. I was mad myself! I couldn't believe it. I felt like a child and felt like someone was trying to control me. I did not feel like it was helpful...even through it was supposed to help me I just felt like it was derailing me.
I called her and asked her to "split" the difference with me and only delayed for 2 weeks. It did make me feel better then.
With that said...I have to say it really doesn't matter whether you are having it today, tomorrow or the day before Christmas. You are changing your life. You are making those changes. And they should stand true during any holiday. Surgery during the holiday will suck a bit, however, if you plan a bit ahead and shop or have someone else plan to cook or you cook within your plan or your new RNY plan.
I wanted my birthday cake and I have wanted things since but this is more so it just doesn't matter!
Good luck!

OH the hoops!! Do what you have to do, it will all be worth it. You think they'd figure out that at 45 (my age) I'm not going to manage my weight in my next 45 years. I think the most difficult part of that process was knowing that my insurance company might not approve the surgery after all that time...but they did and all that jumping through hoops is a distant memory. Good luck and enjoy the holidays- the last of your "old" life!! YAY!

I wanted to do it in August, but couldn't quite hit it, so I had to wait another semester for it. The day after fall semester finals I started my two-week liquid diet. Two days after Christmas I had surgery. I was two weeks out when I was back in front of the class again.
You know what? There's a time for everyone. That was mine. Yours is when it happens. Use the extra time you have been given to prepare by following all the rules to the fullest extent possible. Form those good habits in advance so you'll be slipping back into them instead of trying to form them when they let you start eating again.
There is a whole lot you can do to use this time wisely. Put it into high gear and start your new life now! There's no better time!!

I feel the same way sister! I've been tumbling through this process for a year. I did all the classes attended all the appointments and the psych eval wants me to commit another 6 months.....I almost got up and punched her tiny face off. This is my dream and now they're telling me not now? I don't really have six months to do the surgery. I have friends and family getting married and I have to travel to get to them. And stay for about two months. So I either get the surgery soon, or look at possibly another yr on top of this one. I'm getting a second opinion next week on the 15th. My health insurance isn't really the problem....my husbands Army and I live in the medical side of things so they're eager to jump and train on anyone who'd let them. But I'll pray that things work out for you.

I went through all those frustrations and feelings, trust me, but my surgery happened when it was meant to happen. The way I see it now, I know there was a method to their madness in having me jump through all their hoops, but I trusted the process, prayed a whole lot, and now my life is changed completely. I didn't have my surgery when I wanted it, but the delay just gave me more time to learn and practice what I would be doing after surgery. It will happen, and these frustrating times will seem like they never happened.
