| How long before you returned to work?
Im scheduled to have surgery on 11/28 and Im very excited, but initially my doctor only gave me 3 weeks off of work. My hubby had the gastric sleeve and had no complications and was off two months...it took him 6 weeks to feel semi-normal. At the time the dr thinks I should be ready to return to work, I will barely have transitioned to soft foods. I dont work a physically demanding job, but its a stressful one and most weeks Im required to work more than 50 hrs and Im concerned that if I return to work to early it will delay my healing. Im really stressed about it and at the same time I dont want to tell my doctor that because I dont want him to delay my surgery. Uuuuggghhhhhh...............
How long was it before you felt ready to return to work? Do you think Im worrying myself over nothing?

Everyone heals differently and you may feel better earlier. Listen to your body and if you need more time let your doctor know. I returned to work after 3 weeks but could of after 2. I had Gastric RNY.

I went back after one week. When I started to get overly tired, I went home.
The second week I went back full time. I was fortunate to have breezed through surgery with no complications, so that played a part in getting back to work quickly.

I agree that every body is different and we should listen to ours. This is a question that comes up in a lot in support group. Our surgeon bases it on what type of job you have. The nurses that are doing the moving, lifting, and all that are generally off about 4 - 6 weeks. Others that work desk jobs and don't move a lot are off 2 - 4 weeks. I work a desk job from home (no driving involved) so I was only off a week. I still took naps through out the day.

I had my gall bladder out at the same time as my RNY (2 more holes in my belly.) I was back in front of the class in two weeks, but I only worked half days for a couple of weeks and then I went home and took some world-class power naps!

The worst thing I did was not expect the pain. My doctor told me to take off 6 weeks. Instead as soon as I was done at the hospital, we drove to my Mother-in-Law's home, seven hours away. Had a long weekend and was back to work on Monday. I had 2 days off of work. I have an office job, and a very understanding boss, so I worked short days for that first week back. He would have let me take all the time I needed, but I was stubborn. It was one of the worst things I could have done to myself. Take your time, let your body heal

If you are not lifting or doing physical labor then the time to return to work can occur sooner.
I did some computer work from home on and off for a couple of days within 4 days post op and was back at work for about 5 hours a day after 1 week. The next week I was putting in about 50 or so hours a week and never looked back.
The best part about getting back to work was occupying my time rather than sitting around watching tv, being productive, starting the path to becoming healthier and physically active and interacting with human beings and not my dog.
Best of luck.

I had my surgery on Tuesday, 10/18 and went back to work on Monday, 10/24 I work in an office and I also drove a school bus that day! Everybody has to listen to their own body and do what is best for them, there are no 2 exactly alike! Good luck to you. I had the Lap. Gastric RNY.
