Angry Help!!

This may not be the right topic to put this under, but I don't know where else to put it!

I am 26 days away from surgery, I start the 2 week pre-surgery diet the day after Christmas.

Right now, all I want to do is EAT! I'm not even hungry most of the time.

How can I curb this? When I'm at work, its pretty easy to, since we stay fairly busy (EMS, yea) but thats only a 24 hour period every 4th day. The 3 days in between work shifts, are getting bad.

HELP ME!!

Thanks

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I think it is the " I better eat it now while I can" thing. Try to do your best. The more weight you lose before surgery the better it will be for you. Try to drink a lot of water and more protein. That seemed to help me. Then the 10 days before surgery I was on two shakes and one low carb meal a day. Hang in there you will make it.

Could anxiety be making you hungry? It is best to try to lose a few pounds before surgery..for so many reasons. Start journaling your food; maybe that would help. Figure out your hungriest time and safe more filling foods for then.
Good luck! Hang in there, you can do it!!

Hi. Oh, boy... does this sound familiar! In fact, it pretty much echoes my very first post on this site two and a half weeks ago. I'm still having a hard time. Your surgery date is just about a month ahead of mine, and from your stats, it looks like you've already lost a respectable 12 lbs.

As to the eating-like-there's-no-tomorrow question, yes, intellectually we know that losing as much as possible before the surgery is the wisest thing to do. Not only to make the surgery itself easier, but to start on our new lifelong eating habits before having the deal with the shock of our body recovering. But on the other hand, it feels to me like knowing that you're going to be getting a really great vacuum cleaner and then being asked to pick up all the grains of sand from your carpet with your fingers before the vacuum clearner arrives. If I could do on my own what the tool (of gastric bypass) is designed to help me do, why make myself suffer trying to do it without the right equipment?

I'm in the same boat as you and wish that I could advise you with something really enlightening. But I'll have to just keep my eye on this thread and hope that someone can answer your question. Big help I am...

I agree with pretty woman, I kept a journal during my pre-op steps and that helped me realize how much I was eating and how many calories I was taking in. I became so ashamed of what I was writing/eating that I slowed down and started to make better food choices. Push water and protein...everything will be ok...don't stress!!!

It also may have something to do with your mentrual cycle...pre-surgery I was the most hungry person when I was premenstrual. The apple apparently doesnt fall far from the tree because my petite teenage daughter, who normally eats like a bird, scarfs down some serious food right before she starts her period too. Just throwing this out there...

I think a lot of it is because you think you'll never be able to eat these foods again. We call it "last supper syndrome". Pay attention to what you are thinking about when the need to eat hits you, that may help you to understand why you are feeling compelled to eat.

I kept thinking about how important this surgery was to my life. I didn't want anything to happen that would delay/postpone it and I knew if I gained a pound my surgeon could cancel it. So, fear worked for me.

Just slow down and remember why you're doing this.

I say don't beat yourself up. The more you try to abstain from food, the more you will want it and want to eat it. Enjoy some of your favorite foods - it will be a while (or never) before you get them again. Some of them you may not even like after you have surgery. Just don't go crazy!

Remember the motto...Eat to live not Live to eat. You are changing the way you look at food. I can say I am still working on that myself but things have changed a whole lot from (lets say) a year ago.

Might have a bite or two of things you think you can't have anymore but don't sit down and have a whole bunch of it. Luckily for me I went in to see the doc (it was my birthday) and they scheduled the surgery 10 days from then and I started my diet that very next day. I had veggie fajitas and a piece of my most favorite ice cream cake of all time. It sat in the freezer for weeks until my husband ate it all. I wanted to be healthy more than I wanted to eat that cake. Still do.

I can tell you that three and a half months down the road from where you are now...it is wonderful to bounce...yes, bounce, up the steps in my house without heavy breathing. I can paint my own toenails. I can tuck my legs up underneath me. I can sleep on my stomach. I still have a ways to go. But I am thankful for what I have achieved.

Make a list of those things that you want. Tape it to the fridge or cupboard. Think about that before you grab whatever.

Saving grace for me? Sugar free popsicles...Dreyers or Breyers is the best. 25 calories and gives me my juice flavor I love (I miss juice).

You can do it. And you will be so surprised that you really don't miss stuff as much as you think you will. Once your body gets used to not having those awful things you really don't crave it anymore. And if you do, have a bite maybe one more...chew and roll it around in your mouth and be done with it. You have better things to do...like LIVE.
