Thumbs up Let the countdown begin

Even though I have been counting down the days since I actually got a surgery date, today I started the 2 week pre-op diet. My hubby bought me a small personal blender for Christmas (I showed him which one I wanted, so it was no secret, lol) and I have had 2 protein shakes thus far, one for breakfast, one for lunch and lots of water in between. I did eat a boiled egg with my breakfast shake though.
The protein shakes aren't as bad as I thought. I make them like milkshakes and they are actually pretty good.
So, 14 days and counting. My pre-op doctor visit is January 5th, so I will get a surgery time then.
I'm also going to assume that its perfectly normal to feel this excitement combined with apprehension at this point.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello,

Sounds like you are off to a great start. I had surgery Dec 5 and I too had excitement and apprehension. The first three days of liquid are the hardest....your stomach will get used to it after that but your head won't. Stick to it and best of luck to you!

As Wtbh said, the first three days are the hardest. You will be going through drug withdrawal in that time. Sugar is a terribly addictive drug, and detox is no fun! Your body currently uses carbs as its preferred fuel. It takes about three days to use up all the easy carb reserves and then your metabolism has to switch over to a fat-burning instead of a carb-burning energy supply.

Do a search for "ketones" and "ketosis". You'll learn a lot about the process from those old posts. If you were ever serious about Atkins, this is all old hat for you, though. Your two-week liquid pre-op diet is similar to their "induction" phase.

Meanwhile, be prepared for headaches and fatigue. And warn everyone you care about that if they see you getting cranky, they should steer clear and not get in the way of it!! And bear that in mind yourself! You may feel like a she-bear with a toothache and a hangover, but try not to snarl at those you love!!

Starting with day 4, though, things should get pretty good for all of you!

Good luck!! You can do this!

The only protein powder I have right now is chocolate, but I'm being creative with it. I have been having trouble swallowing the liquid calcium () but I mixed it into my protein shake and it tastes like chocolate covered strawberries now!!!

Yay! So excited for both of us

I started my liquid diet Xmas eve and so far so good. First 2 days were pure misery for me as I cannot have any solids. Just protein shakes, water, SF drinks. Jello and broth are only allowed the day before surgery when on clear liquid diet.

Today is day #3 and I feel great. Energy is back and headaches are gone. I am a huge coffee drinker and the no caffeine has been really kickin' my butt.

I had my preop class today and all that is pending is the type and cross with baseline labs on the 7th. I will find out then what case I am as well. I am hoping to be first in line and be walking by the afternoon.

So glad to have your support and thank you!!

hi there.. the shakes were tough at first but after the first few days you get a burst of energy as you shed pounds, I lost 15 pounds those 2 weeks and felt great. I was petrified of the surgery but and happy I had it done, I am a month out. I am exhausted but know things will get better and didnt have any really other major side effects.

I wish you the best and this forum is great to talk with. You know you are never alone.

Ok all i can say right now is "damn!!!!" I have had headaches in the past, i suffer from migraines, but the one i woke up with this morning is worse. And to top it off, im working today. I already warned my partner at work about whats going on and if i snap at him to just remember that its not me. Can i make it until 8am with these guys without getting too irate? 21 hours until i can go home, 21 hours for them to deal with me.
