Here's the sample low-carb, liver-shrinking diet that I was given to start two weeks before my surgery:
Breakfast: 1 slice whole wheat bread
100g 5% spreadable white cheese
2 fresh vegetables
Snack: 1 container yogurt
Lunch: 250g chicken/turkey/fish/beef
small bowl of cooked vegetables
Snack: 1 container yogurt or pudding up to 3% fat
Dinner: 1 slice whole wheat bread
50g pastrami (1% fat)
½ can tuna or 1 egg
10 olives or 1T tehina or 1T mayonnaise
Snack: ½ small bowl of SF ice cream or SF pudding
Then, the day before surgery, I'm to switch to an all-liquid diet in which I can have:
- 12-14 glasses of water (mandatory)
- fruit juice (strained, no pulp)
- clear broth
- tea
- SF popsicles
- SF jello
Finally, complete fasting (not even a sip of water) starting at midnight before the surgery.
Looking at everyone else's responses, the two-week plan seems excessive to me... but that's what I was given. Not sure what to think now. I can't tell you you how it worked for me (and when I will be able to, you'll be long post-op), but I wish you the very best of success!!
