Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I didn't choose the sleeve because I'd ready your more likely to experience reflux than you would be with the roux

You'll find that most of us had RNY, so we're a bit biased. Some members have had good results with the sleeve, but almost everyone who had RNY is glad they did and would choose it again. Me included.

You only get to choose one, so educate yourself and choose wisely. You'll find lots of places on the internet with horror stories about WLS. Try to track them to a source and they'll evaporate like a second-hand smoke ring. The folks who tell these stories never let facts (or the lack thereof) get in the way of a good scary tale!

Good luck!

I am excited and nervous all in one, i have read so many negative things about the dumping syndrome and the vitamin issues, that I was scared about the roux but I am looking at all the sucess stories on here and starting to feel a lot better about the process.

No one here will ever tell you that this is the easy way to lose weight. Above a certain weight, there is no easy way anyway! There are rules that must be learned and incorporated into your habits so they become a part of you. If you follow the rules, it'll work.

Extreme weight loss involves nothing more or less than a radical transformation of your formerly dysfunctional relationship with food. If you are not willing or able to commit at least 100% to any method of losing weight, it won't work. That's especially true for us because of our surgical alteration. We can't go back! (As if we'd want to!!)

Dumping is part of the ride that not everyone gets to enjoy. It's not essential, but you may have it, so be prepared and you won't be disappointed. My wife dumps. I don't. We're both members of the Century Club. I have to be good because I have to be good. She has to be good because she'll get slapped down by her pouch if she isn't. You don't get to choose, you just have to live with what you're dealt.

Keep reading and learning! There's a lot here to calm your jitters.

As CT said - not everyone gets dumping syndrome...I never did. And my bloodwork has always been fine. I do have an issue with osteopenia, but that's more because my surgery was a very long time ago, before the standards for taking an appropriate amount of calcium were set, as well as knowing HOW to take it. Now I'm taking it appropriately so I hope to be able to head it off for now...

The lesson is - if you do have RNY, you need to be religious about supplements. But that's not really an issue.

Do your research and you'll eventually figure out what's best for you...

sleeve, sleeve!!

I had the sleeve and I've done just about as well as the others here in terms of weight loss....and really, ALL of us have done a great job- its work however you choose.

I made my choice because I wanted to avoid some of those symptoms you've mentioned....and the surgery itself is a bit less intensive. One thing to consider is that there isn't as much long term information with the sleeve in terms of results. Good luck with your decision!

I had the sleeve!! It's really a matter of choice and something that should be discussed and decided with your surgeon. My surgeon and I chose the sleeve for me because I was already anemic and the RNY would exacerbate that. I also wanted the sleeve because I feared the whole idea of re-routing. I love having the sleeve and wouldn't change it for anything. My sleeve is working for me!! Good luck with your decision!

I didn't know about the sleeve when I signed up for bypass; it was just evolving I guess. A few months later, people in support group were talking about it and I think at least half a dozen people have had it.
My mom had bypass in the early 70s... due to her success I thought I would also find success. I have dumped once since I had surgery. Some do, some don't, some have more tolerances for foods, sugars, fats etc than others..
What have I missed since I had bypass? Hmmm.. I can't take Aleve anymore; it is an Nsaid... but I don't have lower back pain any more so I don't need it.
A McDonald's hamburger can give me pretty bad gas.. oh yeah, I can make my own hamburger..and am quite happy with a grilled snack wrap at McDs....
I don't miss any foods at all... In fact, tomorrow I see my girlfriends for lunch. One is babysitting a grandchild so we are going to her house They are getting cheese steaks, but I have no desire for one, so I will make a half sandwich and take it with me. I will be perfectly content.. especially when I check the scale on Thursday a.m.
Good luck with whatever decision you make.
