Weight Loss Method Duodenal Switch | I have the worst luck in the world! I was all set with one of the best surgeons in the world, had all my tests done, all my records sent, all approvals from my other doctors. All I needed was to call the surgeon, and get a date. So today I did that, and I'm told that my surgeon has decided out of the blue, to leave the hospital, and go somewhere else. No one seems to know where he is going, but he's gone as of the end of July, and of course, he's booked solid until then! So what do I do? Do I stay with him, and wait till he gets setteled in another hospital? Or do I stay at the hospital and see a different doctor there? Either way this is messed up Why does crap like this keep happening to me? Any ideas???

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Yep I have a idea....have the Dr refer you to someone who will meet your needs personally. I would ask for an appointment to see this surgeon before he leaves and maybe find out why and where hes going. If its to a competing hospital they wont tell you that he is moving there. That is my suggestion. Things will work out with you Im sure. He would have to stay close enough to do post op appointments with the patients he has scheduled already. So... call and make the appointment. Its worth that chance. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WOW that blows... but things happen for a reason. I am sure you dont know the reason just yet but will once your on the looseing side. HANG in there and i would try to get in to this dude before he relocates and see if he can tell you were he is going.......i would imagine if he will still be doing the surgery he would want your case were he is going, unless its totally a relocation....in that case i would ask him who is the next best in the area being he is leaving......... good luck and do keep us posted!!!

| Super Moderator | Oh, wow. Is he leaving just NY Presp, or Cornell U as well? If it's just NY Presp, he'll still be at Cornell U, and you can still go to him. Or, it could be, Cornell U broke it's affiliation with NY Presp for some reason, which probably means the U will be tagging up with another hospital. If he's leaving Cornell as well, my guess is, since he is a very highly qualified and well known surgeon, and one of the coordinators for NIH's study on sleeve gastrectomy, he got an irresistible offer, a higher position than he holds now. Asking him to refer you to another surgeon, or, if he is not leaving your area, go along with him are your options. In any case, if you can manage to get in an appt with him before he leaves, that will give you pointers on what to do. This all sucks, but please don't give up, I am sure your surgeon cares for you despite the situation, so fight because this is the fight for your life, you may be feeling black and blue all over right now, but once you do get over this mountain (as it may seem to you now) and look back, you'll see that everything that happened had meaning--and you'll find yourself in a much better place for all the struggles you have had to over come. ((((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Weight Loss Method Duodenal Switch | So, here is an update... I decided not to chase Dr. Gagner around, if he can just up and leave, and not contact his patients, well then I really don't want to have anything to do with him! As far as going to another hospital, then I would have to start all over again, have all my records resent, and get all new clearences sent out. I really do not want to go backwards. So, I will now be seeing the Associate Professor Of Surgery, and soon to be the new Chief of Bariatrics at the same hospital. He seems to know his stuff. Here is his bio, if anyone is interested: Weill Cornell Physicians I have an appointment on June 15th, and have been told that he has surgery slots open for June, and July, so maybe I can get this done. The game continues...

| Super Moderator | Thanks for the update, I was worrying about you. Glad to hear you are in good hands, and you'll be going ahead. One thing, though, I hope you won't feel too badly about Dr. Gagner, sometimes--okay, quite a lot of times--academic politics just suck, and this may have been one of those things. He just may have had no choice but to pull up his stakes without any apoligies. I've been around such places long enough to know. And you know, you will be seeing someon who is competently trained, so that is what matters most.
