Default Help! Cold Feet BIG STYLE!

Well, as some of you know my op was delayed back in June and put off for six weeks and my resolve has all but disappeared. After faffing around for the better part of THREE years, Im really considering cancelling the whole thing. I am totally demotivated and can't get enthused about it at all.

My main motive for losing weight is to attempt to relieve my back pain but I read that its not necessarily so that weight loss will do this. I LOVE food and eating out is one of the only pleasures I can have without pain.

Im thinking that once I have the op, I will have NO pleasures left at ALL. I have read on here about all the foods that can cause trouble and the strictness of the regime you have to follow to get success. Im not sure I can be doing with it.

To me its a BIG gamble that, knowing my luck I will lose.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Big hugs to you ((((((((Panman))))))))

There is nothing any of us can tell you. This is YOUR decision ultimately. But I can tell you that I feel WONDERFUL. I had my surgery on 4-30 and I have NEVER had ANY problems tolerating foods. Now, granted I've stayed away from all of the "trigger" foods such as sugar, hi fat, and fried foods, but I've even ate a little pasta and was able to tolerate it. I can't imagine how weight loss would not lessen back pain, but I'm not a Dr., so this is just MY opinion. But just the "quality" of life I feel has been well worth having it done. I pray that God gives you the strength, guidance, and wisdom thru this.

((HUG))
i will say that the fussy grumpy pouch thing doesnt last for ever.
BEING over two years out my pouch doesnt get as easily aggetated
as it did when i first had the surgery.
I am a different eater now and have made some good choices
but further out it gets more normal just in small sizes.
BUT this is a personal descision only you can make
you will figure it out im sure!

awwwww it gets better with time. i mean i am still newly out but i can eat things now that i couldnt eat when i first came home its the little things that make me happy, and my tastes have changed for the most part.

you will find your way. even if you change your mind about this, thats your choice, but dont let it be because you;re afraid you wont be able to eat certain things again, thats small compared to the overall heath improvement and quality of life you will have post op.

The best way I can think of to get your self motivated again is to remember all of the reasons you had to have this surgery back at the beginning of this journey. The health problems that will hopefully get better, the loss of the excess weight in order to have a more active life and better quality of life. Just try to remember the reasons you began this quest.

I would suggest that you discuss this with your doctor. If you are not in the right frame of mind, then this is not something that you should be doing right now. We all have to travel this road alone and only you can decide for you what is right. For me, I would rather cut off my arm than to cancel this surgery.

Panman,

For what it's worth, I'm a month out. I've lost 40 lbs and I feel wonderful. I was trying to walk at work when I could get a chance. I'd take an elevator to the 11th floor walk around, walk down a floor, walk around, walk down a floor, until I got tired. Didn't take long, and before my surgery it was getting excruciating to walk down the steps. Last night I was back to work, and I was flying down the steps. No back pain at all. Other than the back pain from lying in one place at first after surgery I've had none.

Only you can decide, though. It is a life changing surgery. I wish you well in your decision.

Well honey it your own decison. I am preop to. Im sure I would get totally discouraged like you have if I had went through what you did. The pain in your back will ease because of the stress it has now supporting your weight. Most of all your stomach. You have never really told us what it is about your back that bothers you. Do you have slipped disc?

The only thing I would sincerly ask you do to right now is think of what made you make the decision you did. What was that last straw. There have been many people on this web site alone get within a few days of surgery only to be told there not ready. Even one lady got to the hosptial like yourself and was ready to go and the Dr got upset with the spouse and wouldnt do it.

I would take the time you need to figure this out for yourself. It is your decison. Iknow you have waited a few years to have a spot to have this done also. I would take eveything into account before the final decision is made. What ever that is honey we are gonna support you. I hope this finds you well.

((((((HUGS))))))
The reason your surgery had to be postponed, may just be that it still isn't the time for you.
If you are discouraged by the posts about changing your eating habits, about the strictness of following the rules, then, maybe, you haven't done the soul searching and researching you need to do, to succeed with this, and be satisfied with the results, whatever happens on the way.

That said, you are the only one who can decide what to do, as this is your life.
I suggest
1) make a list of what is not good in your life, that may be due to your excess weight
2) make a list of what may improve if you are able to get rid of your excess weight
3) make a list of what you can't do because of your extra weight, that you would like to do, once you cna get rid of the weight.
4) go over the list carefully, and consider everything that may not change with losing weight, as well as everything that may change with losing weight.
5) make a list of what you need to do to make this surgery work for you, after all, it is only a tool, so, what are the things you must do to make the most of this tool.
6) talk everything out with your surgeon.

Whatever you decide to do now, whatever you may decide in the future, please know that we all care about you here, and are keeping you in our thoughts that you be able to make the choice that is the right one for you.

(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Panman,
How's your health (besides your back)? What's your family history of heart disease, diabetes? Can you "afford" to stay obese - in other words, no health problems that will be fixed by weight loss? Only you can decide if you want to go through with this surgery and you MUST be committed to doing it. The pros need to outweigh the cons.

Only you know if it's just cold feet or if you really don't want to do this. I hope you can reach the right decision.
