Default supportive pcp question?

hi all i was just wondering if any of you have had an issue getting your pcp to recomend you have the surgery? i had a consultation with a surgeon and i have not even talked to my pcp. i am afraid he may not think i need the surgery. the surgeon i consulted with said he has had patients from my pcp before but i am just worried that he may not think i need the surgery. i actually only saw my pcp while i was pregnant and have not been to him for anything else. i have an appointment with him this month to do a physical and pap and i am going to discuss it with him and the 6 month diet. i was just wondering if anyone else had any problems with this. thanks for any help!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

There have been people on board who have had problems with their PCP and ended up changing their drs.
However, since your surgeon says that he's had other patients from your PCP, I think for now, you should see how it works out, and then take the next step if you need to.
(((((HUGS)))) Good luck.

i didnt have an sue gettng my pcp tp approve...my issues are coming with the after care....needless to say, if there is an issue up front, usually the surgeon can refer you to a PCP they have worked with in the past. but being that they have had other patients from your pcp it shouldnt be a problem. the wrst he could say is "no" so ask and see

HONESTLY when i went to see my PCP knowing i had to do something i was SHOCKED that he supported my decision 100 percent. HE felt if any surgery would improve the quality of my life its worth doing, referred me to a surgeon even though i had consulted with one already and i fell in love with the one my PCP recommended.
NOW mind you he was the doctor that would never prescribe me diet pills or help me loose weight but always said i had to.....so i was shocked.

IF he wasnt supportive, honestly i would have found a new doctor that would support my choice.... i didnt require a referral i had a PPO insurance plan but i needed someone to be behind me for all my follow up care as well
hugs

Default Primary Care Physician

Hello:

I was scheduled to have my poke & feel (Pap & Mammo) with my PCP at the end of July beginning of August ('07). I mentioned that I was seriously looking into RNY, and she immediately arranged for a referral. I had already been to two information sessions. I then made my initial appointment at the Weight Loss Clinic. Saw the surgical nurse and the Nut. Then the next month I saw the Nut again. Next, it was my psychological testing with took about 3 hours. Then it was a follow-up to analize the Psych. test. My last appointment was with the physician's assistant, and I have 2 more with her,(Unimpressive). Now they have scheduled a TEAM meeting to discuss my case. They will notify me of a decision by mail. Then this month, I go for my last NUT. appointment. I hope to have all the appointments done at the end of February '08 and pray to have the surgery in mid-April. Just thought my experience might aid someone new. It's a lot of work. I have BCBS of Minnesota.

My pcp actually suggested it to me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it, but he started the 6 month diet thing immediately so that I would have it completed if I changed my mind. I was actually the hold up on contacting a surgeon. But when I decided to have the surgery he had me ready and I had meet all the initial requirements. He is kind of conservative and I had been told by other patients of his that he wouldn't recommend them. I guess with all my problems he knew I needed it.

You might be suprised. Drs do care about there patients. If he has referred other patients and was pleased with the results then more than likely he will. You know it dont matter really how many times they have seen you before. I was telling my specialist to which i had a few before.... LOL about it and only seen them once and they were thrilled. The only flack I got was from one nurse practioner. I see her on occasion when my doc is not in. She said the only reason she didnt like it was because she had a aunt that was turned down by 6 drs before the 7th agreed and then had massive trouble. Its also a good thing if the referring Dr kinda knows how to take care of you afterwards to when you get sick.

My pcp has been awesome - but I knew she recommended the surgery to another person. I chose her specifically for that purpose when I started seeing her in ~2000. She has been supportive and is knowledgeable about caring for us post op.
