Hello everyone!
I am glad to have found this group. I am sure it will help me in my quest. I am currenlty pursuing GBS. I have an appointment on November 28th with the surgeon and hope to have my surgery in sometime in the spring of 08.
A little background, I am 28 (almost 29) and I have been fat since I was about 12. I have PCOS which I am sure some of you are familer with and since I hit puberty the pounds have just kept piling on... I am now at 332 lbs.
As a RN I know the risks of being obese and have finally decided I am tired of it. I want to have babies and with my PCOS and its severity I can't. My fertility doc has refused to prescribe me anything stronger than clomid (a pill) until I have the surgery and loose at least 100 pounds. So, if I want to have kids it looks like I no longer have an option. I will still have to take fertility drugs but with the surgery I can purse further options like shots and invitro. And I am ok with that. I am ready to make the life changes and go for it. My insurance does cover gastric bypass but you must go to the doctor monthly and the gym 2 times a week for 6 months. So I start the gym tonight. I am hoping that working out will increase my strength and help with the recovery and weight loss once the surgery occurs.
I am concerned with the time out of work after the surgery. I will have the laproscopic approach. How long did you all have to be out of work? How long did it take you to get back to a semi-normal life? What was the pain like after the procedure? What was it like in general? What about now? Did you have to get/do you need plastic surgery now? I would LOVE to hear your stories. Please let me know anything you think will be helpful. I could use the advice!
Thanks soooo much!
