Default Liquid Diet Question

I have been reading through the threads and find that the liquid diets are all different. I start my liquid diet Sept 8-Surgery is Sept 11. I can only have water/clear no sugar liquids and sugar free jello. Why are the diets so different? How do you survive 3 days with no food????????

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I Had To Do 3 Days Also. You Should Be Able To Have Broth Cause That Is Clear. But Thank God You Dont Have To Do 2 Wks Or Months Of The Liquid Diet. Alot Of People On Here Had To Do That.

Hang In There. You Will Do It Cause You Know You Have To.

A lot of the instructions are based on the personal experiences of the individual surgeons. They will tell you to do things that they feel most comfortable with, and has worked well with their patients up to now.

Yes, you can survive for a pretty long time without food, so long as you get the daily liquids in. You've got plenty stored within your body right now. After all, post op, for a long time, what you are going to get into your body are only the essential nutrients that we have to get from the outside world because our body can't produce them, but even with those stuff, someone with a normal range weight has enough stocked to last for more than a week or two, so with excess weight, you have even more.
We can survive starvation, but we can't survive dehydration.

Doctors are all different, that's certainly one thing that is really clear from reading the posts here. I had a 2 week liquid diet before my surgery with clear liquids only on the day before surgery. I didn't find the 2 weeks too hard, because I could eat lots of blenderized soups that filled me up, along with SF jello. It seems hard when you think about it, but just remember the reason why you're doing it -- your surgery -- and it makes it a lot easier to make it through. You'll do fine.
