Exclamation Before Surgery: TIPS

It’s important for you to remember that it takes weeks, sometimes months and a lot of hard work to change behaviors and habits. Be sure to ease into these changes and avoid the frustration that can accompany a major lifestyle change. Participate in a support groups may be especially helpful during this time.
TIPS:
  • Develop new coping mechanisms that aren’t associated with food.
  • Find new ways to occupy the time you used to spend eating.
  • Increase your physical activity - even the smallest effort makes a difference.
  • Create and rehearse responses to inquiries about your weight loss or behavioral changes.
  • Keep an ongoing list of your post-surgery goals and expectations.
  • Buy supplies such as infant/child utensils, small plates and bottled water.
  • Practice sipping water throughout the day.
  • Avoid drinking with meals.
  • Cut food into small pieces.
  • Practice chewing food until it’s smooth or in a puree form before swallowing.
  • Wean yourself off soda and other carbonated beverages.
  • Try different protein shakes and find one that you like.
  • Learn to recognize when you feel satisfied or full. During a meal, notice when food tastes less appealing. Notice when your sense of urgency to eat decreases. Notice when your sense of hunger decreases or goes away.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello Lisa, I am new here, I am from the USA but I live in Norway, I am having Roux en Y Gastric Bypass,I go back to the sergon on the 8th of August to talk to him and get my Opperation date.and on the 15th I meet with another Dr and a Nurtirionalist and a shrink guy.some questions for you and other's,
in the first couple of months after the opperation how much weight can i ecpect to loose,my husband thinks it a good idea to go and buye a goal outfit to hang in my room to see evry day but what size as I know that will change alot for a while, im use to xxl , also im going to see my daughter and grandkids in the states for a couple of months before my opperation, and clothes here are expensive I thought I should by smaller clothes to bring home, for when I will need it of course i dont know how to bye smaller things, what size if you were me would you bring home to hang up for after opperation?
can you tell me the difference between feeling to full with my stomache now compared to too full afer bypass.
did your personality change alot after, you see my sister had it done 5 years ago,and she is unbariable to be around, she is a snot, I hope I dont have a skinny snotty brat inside that will show her ugly face after lol.
im sure I will have more questions, if you dont mind later.

WOW how exciting...
this thread here shows how differently people loose ...me and shelley
had surgery the same time but lost different...so how you loose will be unique for you....check this link:

http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...omparison.html

As for clothes shopping....well i used closed shopping to get me out of the blues alot...when i was going thru some tuff times TRYING on clothing in new sizes always helped. THING is you blow thru sizes quickly so i really didnt go to crazy till i stabalized......and sometimes shopped in good will places. BUT i will say once i got into 13/14 the sizes then blew down fast to wear i am now which is size 8 and 10's.
I started my journey at 310 lbs i am 5'5... and my lowest weight post op was 167...i wear my jeans very tight so i fit in small sizes...my legs were always thin so to have the thigh tight i have to get in small sizes for a good fit. HARD to say what size goal might be for you we all loose different and it depends on how large we are to begin with too.

As for MOOD changes....
well i will say im still me.
BUT i will say the first year post op i had many bouts of serious
depression......and still battle with some ugly mood swings still.
ITS weird but i notice them. SOME proly has to do with the fact
my girl cycles have never been this regular...but i know weight loss
effects womens hormones and who knows i might be premenopausal
as well being im 45......so who really knows what that is all about.
I dont think im snotty
i mean actually i still feel like the fat me not
a skinny person so i think im the same that way.

As for the full well i am not good here at all...i had troubles with this cause i have trouble with eating slowly...so to ensure that i didnt over eat i had to eat out of baby food bowls. I would put my food in that and when i was done i was done...and it seemed to work best for me . BUT there are times i have eaten to much ...and i puke. ITs still a learning game for me as well. BUT there are times i no i cant take another bite ...but
i will add when eating the wrong foods.....like crackers i dont get that full feeling. BUT when i eat a protein meal i get full and know. and can stop. HOPE that helps
HOPE some of this stuff helps!
hugs
lisa
