Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi all, I'm starting my liquid diet for my surgery which is Nov. 20 and am getting excited, but a bit concerned. I've done all the steps, working with dietician, etc, and have lost about 30+ pounds already, but I'm still not sure I'm identifying my full felling, is this normal so close to surgery? I'm concerned that I won't recognize it and may overeat and be sick. I'm a little (more than a little) concerned about the dumping syndrome stuff I hear. Also are there any tips or good products out there for proteins during this phase? I friend told me about whey protein powder, does anyone use or like that. Is GNC a good place to shop for this stuff? I'm very anxious to start the losing and get going. Thanks for the help and encouragement. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | It depends on your surgeon's orders for your diet. I can have SF popsicles, SF jello, crystal lite and my protein drinks. I got the Isopure bottles from GNC and some other whey protein powder from the Health Food store here. It has 110 calories only and I make it with ice to make it extra cold. I am also using benefiber three times daily as per my instructions I was given. Don't buy anything in bulk because you never know what you will like. I have a bunch of powdered drinks that I will never drink because they are nasty. Good luck to you. Drink plenty of water. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Oh how exciting! I remember the liquid diet so well and hated it...LOLOL it did get easier after about the 4th day. Now I use the EAS Whey Vanilla Protein Powder from walmart...I chose vanilla because I can mix any other flavors in it and never have to be stuck with the same old flavor. Trust me when I say that you will have very different tastes after surgery, so dont go overboard on getting things now. My best advice is to try samples after the surgery to see how you handle them. Good luck!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks for all your help and ideas ladies. I really appreciate it. I'm day 3 and its going well, but challenging. I've prepared meals for my families (that's the hardest part is still being in that role and the cleanup too, I always have trouble with that. My husband actually cleared the table, I about fell over, its a good thing I was sitting down.) But anyway I'm preparing things I don't care for so then I don't miss it.Like I gavme them shrimp the other night and extra spicy chile tonight, so this way it doesn't bother me so much, but soon I'll be running out of meal ideas that id don't like LOL. Anyway thanks again for great ideas. I'm really liking the SF jello cups which scares me because I never liked jello much before, but it looks awfully good right now. Thanks again. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi LoLo.....I too am on a liquid diet for my surgery that is scheduled on Dec 4th. I find that its not the food that I miss, but just the texture of solid food. Best wishes to you on your surgery...I will be praying for you.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks Ladies again for your encouragement. I'm on day 6 and its going pretty well. I'm over day 1-3 which was hard, but now its getting a whole lot easier. It also amazes me the different schools of t hought from one surgeon to another. Good Luck Sharon with yours and we'll keep in touch after our surgeries and keep posted on progress. Thanks again. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | welcome to the site LoLo,I also did not have a surgeon they required the pre-liquid diet, but, it is the best way to follow your docs.plan. The funny part of you statement about feeding u family is that you gave them shrimp and spicy chili so you wont miss them..... those are the two EASIEST things for me to eat,the spicier the better lol kathy

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Good for you....I know that part was soooo difficult for me! But I did it...and your surgeon will thank you -- b/c your liver will shrink...and provide some extra room when he expands your abdominal cavity with gass so he can navigate around for your surgery!! Keep up the GREAT work....you're nearly there....we are keeping the bench warm for ya!!
