Default Questions, please?

Hello everyone.
I had my consult yesterday and I am sooo excited.
She ordered for me to have a:
  1. CBC (H. Pylori) blood test
  2. a consult with my old hemotologist from when I had a blood clot in my lung last May
  3. to lose 10 lbs
  4. a sleep test (I complained I am always tired...but I am wondering if it's because I am possibly anemic and not because of sleep apnea?
I am wondering if before the surgery I will have to use a prep kit to clear out my colon, etc?

Does everyone have to complete (if they are required to) the psych eval, EKG , etc. before they get a surgery date? I've seen some people get a surgery date at their consultation while others don't get one until their testings are done. Does this depend on the surgeon and the requirements of the facility?

Thanks. I'm sure I will have more questions, but I will post them when I have time.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My journey as I call it took me just about 9 months. I had to go to a seminar first. Then I had nutrition appoitments, then a phych appoitment and then also an appoitment with the surgeon. It was a long process but so worth it now that I look back on it. Oh and I also had to have a ultrasound to check on my gallbladder too.
Best of luck on your journey. Just take each step as a baby step like I did and before you know it your sugery date will be there. best of luck.

i think its normal .you have to pass the tests so they know if you're ok.it's a big surgery,so if they want you to do the tests i think thats great.i have sleep apnea, but since surgery it's gotten much better.psych evals are important because you,lle go on an emotional trip.good luck on your tests....

Lazell is very right. THe mental part of this I feel is the hardest and biggest adjustment. I never really expected that and no one ever really told me this
before hand. I didnt find this great site till after my surgery. But yes this is
an emotional roller coaster ride. But again like I said it is worth it.

They wouldn't give me a date until all pre-op stuff was completed...that equated to:

Labs
Psych consult
EKG
Sonogram of gall bladder (we bypassed this)

It wasn't until ALL results were in that they assigned my date!

Well All Surgeons Are Diff About When They Will Schedule Your Surgery Date But If You Dont Complete All Required Tests And Doc Appts They Will Not Perform The Surgery So When They Give You A Surgery Date ( if they give you a date prior to completing everything) They Are Figuring This Will Be Enough Time For You To Get Everthing Done.

Some People On Here Had To Clear Out Their Colons And Some Didnt Have To. I Was Just Told Not To Eat 48 Hrs Prior And To Stay On Liquids For 3 Days Wasnt Required To Lose Wt Before Surgery Though.

This Is So Exciting And Cant Wait To Hear About Your Surgery Date. Good Luck

I began my 6 month dr visits this past May. I had to go to an office information visit which lasted 2 hrs and there were a bunch of us there that day. We go our info packets with our instructions as to what we had to do for insurance to cover. Then I had to go to at least 2 of the support meetings. Other than blood test my surgeon has not ordered any other test, but my husband had to have a couple different ones. I just got a sheet that the surgeon signed saying "good candidate". Anyway, I will go for day of nutrition instruction and appt with surgeon on the 6th and my surgery date has already been set for the 19th. So it doesn't appear they will send me for anything else. Every surgeon is different.

I keep hearing about the mental rollercoaster of this process. Can it be any worse then the mental process of gaining and losing all of our lives? That has been a literal hell for me for over 17 years.

I know from reading and researching that to safe guard myself, I want to have counseling after the surgery. That's just my personal preference. And you are right, this is worth it. Anything that can help save my life...Im all for it!

Thank you. I am going to try and get the surgeon's assistant on the phone today (she STILL hasn't called me back!!! What kind of customer service is this????) and just inquire if I will need any other test after all (even though the doctor only indicated what she wanted me to have done. I know my insurance company may/may not want a psyc eval and a 3 month doctor supervised diet). I just want to make sure I am adhering to the insurance companies requirements so this doesn't get delayed.
My sleep test is this Friday and I meet with the hemotologist Monday. I had the CBC blood test done last night...and losing 10 lbs is not hard for me since I've been on a diet with my primary for a week now and have lost 4 lbs.

I agree, all surgeons are different, as well as requirements for each insurance company. And I have to keep in mind this is a medical necessity for me because my BMI is 54, I am 35 years old, heart disease and diabetes run in the family as well as hypertension and I am slowly losing my ability to walk because my feet hurt sooooo bad! I just need to keep in mind I cannot gauge my requirements based on others because each circumstance is different.

I know. I am ecstatic about all of this. I keep looking at my phone hoping it will ring and I get a surgry date And I will let you all know what happens as it happens.

i THINK WE all get ordered a different set of pre surgical requirements
do to size differences, age differences and surgeons do vary as well.

I had the following done:
ATTEND SURGICAL SEMINAR
pscy evaluationm
upper edoscopy
blood work up
saw a pulmonmaary specialist
gall bladder songoram
saw a dietician

and had also loose 25 lbs. I was
also required 48 hours before surgery
to be cleared by my primary doctor
as well!

i STARtED aLL MY JOURNEY THE END OF FEB., GOT ALL THESE
THINGS DONE and had a june 1 surgery. I did have to get an
angiogram done from the cardilogist who thought i haakd blockages
but that was my big chest makeing for shadowing...so that slowed
me down slightly too.

GOOD luck hope tis info helps just my experience with my wonderful surgeon
