Unhappy Young and scared

I am pre-op, but very close to surgery my doctor says, and I'm unsure as to whether my feelings are normal. I have completed my 6 months supervised diet, all tests that I need, and am now getting ready to send in for insurrance approval. This past week I have just felt terribly sad and afraid, not sure really why, but I think maybe in fear of surgery not working for me, and I'm afriad that it's not going to help me with my physical pain. I've been very short with people, irratable, you name it. Because I am only 17 years old there don't seem to be many places online that I can go to for support because most don't have RNY as young as myself, so I don't know whether my feelings are normal, or really what is going on. I just don't feel like myself, completely lost, and don't know what to do or where to go...? I don't know what my question is here, maybe I just need reasurrance...or a shove in the arm, either would be appreciated.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

First off, welcome! I noticed that you weigh the same amount I did when my WLS journey began. You have every right to be scared, even to have second thoughts. We all did the same thing. But the one thing I say to everyone nowadays is I wish I would have done this surgery sooner. I have been overweight all of my life and it is so hard to think about what opportunities I let pass me by because of my weight. If I had done this sooner, would I have bene able to have a baby? But I cannot let these thoughts rule me. I did it when it was right for me, when I was right with myself and my God. I am sure you have made a very thought out decision and one that you and your doctor are sure is the best for you. Just know that it is completely normal for you to be feeling like you do.

I don't think we were scared...I think most of us were TERRIFIED!!!! It's a scary thought, but I really think, regardless of age, it's normal.

You will find tons of support here and we will do whatever we can to make you comfortable on these boards!

Welcome to the boards, yes what you are feeling is normal and I think we all go through it, I know I did. You have come to the right place there is alot of support here and alot of good advice. Do feel alone here ask as many questions that you have and someone here may have the answer for you no matter what the question is. It is ok to be scared this is a big decision, I think you are a brave young lady to do this at your age, I wish they had this surgery around when I was that age, if they had something similar I didn't know of it, if I had I may have done it back then. This surgery is a life changing experience and we do go through different kinds of thoughts about it, it is normal. Good luck with your journey and look forward to you questions.

Hi there Laura im Vickie. First welcome to the boards. You will find the support you need here in the ways we can give it. This surgery works well for alot of us. I was 363 lbs before my surgery. I feel better physcially already. Its been 3 months. I had alot of joint pain and back pain before. Its really went down. You being the age you are is almost a plus. Youth is a great thing. Your body heals faster. Being scared is normal for this. We all was. Yes no matter our ages we were all scared at some point.

This surgery give me my life back. Already? Yes. I still have a long way to go and I will make it. The thing is.. you might want a certian thing afterwards but....if you have it you surley cant have much because your body wont let you. Yes you experience that full feeling like never before and your satisified. When your clothes start getting baggy or you have to buy new ones......ahhh what a great feeling that is. Each time you go to the Dr and you see that weight just going down is great. I dont know about you but every time before I got on the scale it went up. I had one nurse ask me IF i wanted to weigh....... I was like YES! LOL She laughed at me and said ok your the first person I ever seen besides a small child that wanted weighed LOL. I see alot of people say I dont know if it will work for me. I havnt seen anyone on here yet that it hasnt. You will lose weight. Now as for the end amount im sure that is some work on our part. Im sure the Dr explained to you it will take 50- 70 percent off and the rest will be up to you. Some of us its took it all off. It will depend on you and how they did it.

We are all on your side here. Each and eveyone of us. You have a question ask it. If you can help please do so. Again......Welcome to the boards!

Another thing that's affecting you is that you are going to give up your best friend - FOOD. Lisa can tell you more about this, but you are saying goodby to the thing that has always been a comfort in your like, maybe the only comfort you've known, and that makes you sad and angry to have to lose this friend. But you will discover that comfort food was really your enemy and there is so much more to life when you aren't so big.

Good luck on your journey and come here to share your feelings with us. We will be here for you.

First welcome to the boards. I agree with everyone else, the feelings you are having are quite normal. There is an uncertainity to any surgery. I knew that the risk I was taking was outweighed by the certainity of what would happen if I didin't do the surgery. My life 5 months after surgery is 100 percent better already. Can't wait till I get to goal and see the final results. I am off insulin and my bloodpressure medicine is 1/4 of what it was before. I also have so much more energy. I am able to enjoy my grandson and keep up with him. That has been the best part.

Good luck on your journey. I look forward to seeing you around the board.

Welcome! This is a great source for encouragement and useful information. Glad you could join us.

What you are feeling is absolutely normal. I think I decided during that same time was that I was afraid of the unknown. Tomorrow is unknown as long as there is a tomorrow; however, when it becomes today, that is when we learn the things that will get us through tomorrow. Step out on faith hun.
