Those 4 inch rolls...are they bread? Get ready to do without a lot of the carbs you may be used to having......a lot of times, its not how often we eat, it's WHAT we are eating.....there are lots of ideas on here for meals.....and after surgery, you will find your groove!
Any idea on how far out surgery might be? |
Surgery ? Well blood tests went off Friday! so my doctor said I should hear in 3 weeks!! In Ireland its classed as a cosmetic surgery and is very expensive (15,000 eur = 20,369.24 USD) is is exspensive in America?

I was selfpay and paid cash outright. My surgery was $19k US. Actually, mine was inexpensive compared to some around me and on this board. I've heard figures from $25k and up....insurance will cover it here, but you have to jump through a lot of hoops and meet a lot of requirements.

Most of the members of this board have had Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery for weight loss.
Some people prefer not to tell others except their immediate family--those who really need to know as they are living together or close by-- that they plan to have weight loss surgery because there are a lot of people who don't really know nor understand about the surgery, but get into the game of negative hype by telling the person planning to have surgery what can go wrong, you're taking the easy way out, blah blah blah... all second hand, third hand or even worseknowledge which is very hurtful and not at all informative nor supportive. Some will tell all to the families who are not living close by, as well as their colleagues, after the fact, while others still prefer only to say that they have changed their life style, making healthy food choices, and taking up exercise--which isn't a lie at all as you DO have to make the changes in order for the surgery to work and get the desired results, but they are leaving out part of the story, just in case they get negative reactions. There are plenty of threads, some in Personal Thoughts, some in Coffee Talk, and some in Families and Loved Ones, about this subject.
Who each person tells, and how they explain, is their own choice, as family dynamics is different with everyone.

I have a big family (10 sisters and 5 brothers) in fact one of my sisters had the bypass the same day I did and we told all of our family about the surgery and now if someone asks me how I lost the weight I simply say I had Gastric Bypass and if they show an interest I go in to more detail with them. Everyone has been very supportive and I have not gotten any negitive remarks from people, well at least not to my face.

I personally tell everyone that I had gastric bypass surgery. I just am open about it. Some people are more private about things, it depends on you and who you want to share it with.

I had my surgery almost 8 months ago. Best decision I ever made.
I do not tell everyone about my surgery, this is a personal choice. My close friends and family know that I had surgery. When asked how I am loosing weight I say that I exercise daily and control my eating. This usually stops the questions, but once in a while I get a response like "good for you, so many people get stapled and cut up and take the easy way out"....that infuriates me, so I respond by saying, "actually, any way you choose to loose weight is difficult and success is determined by the person, not the method".
Good luck!
