Hi welcome to the site! It's a fantastic place to get support and encouragement as well as lots of experienced people to give advice. I had open rny on 2-13-08 but I am loosing very slowly compared to most because I had a previous wls in 1997. Just ask questions and read the posts and you will find lots of useful stuff!

I had the gastric bypass and I do it over again in a heartbeat. That was the best thing I have ever done for me. I am a much healthier person now than I was a year ago.
I was a person who loved food before sugery and I did try and eat healthy before surgery, but it was not healthy enough or I would have lost the weight and this tool gave me the help that I needed and I have learned what it means to eat healthy. You have come to the right place, becasue these people care and I want to Welcome to this board and you will be on the losers side of the bench before you know it.
I am losing the weight by eating the right foods now. I do alot of revising foods becasue I figured I do not have to miss out on anything but just by revising it so that I can eat it the healthy way I can eat what the rest of my family eats, but just in a different way. I also doing lots of walking or working in my garden and in the fall and winter I have a big ball I bounce on and I have a eleptical that I also work out on. I have posted alot of my recipes in the recipe section of people here who post their recipes too. Right after sugery you more than likey will ot like tha taste of food becasue I hated food for a few months, but not anymore, I like food again and had to make so that I can eat and enjoy my food. When I revise food I always keep in mind to keep it healthy and nutritous.
The surgery works if you use the tool right. We call our pouch the tool, I thought I would mention that just in case you did not know what tool means. The bypass is an added help to us but we have to eat right and to excercise for it all to work out and loss weight. This surgery has given my life back and I live my life to the fullest now, because before surgery I was in pretty bad shape already, with alot of health problems and just was so immobile, but not anymore.

Welcome! Sorry if we missed your last post!
You need to say what you are comfortable saying. I only told close family and friends about my surgery. (and most I told after) Any one else I know who sees me and asks I respond with something like I am eating healthier and eating less. Most don't push further. Just decide what you want to say and leave it at that- it's your choice!
As for not losing weight....I can't imagine it's possible. If you follow your surgeons guildelines you will do fine!

I agree with Kara. I too told my family and just a few others before surgery. I did not want the negativity from others. I was afraid people were gonna give me a hard time and I was doing the sugery no matter what. Once I came back I told people at work and etc...I am not ashamed to tell people I have had sugery. I just dont tell everyone. Close people I tell and others like Kara says, I am watching what I eat and exercising and etc......which is not a lie. This is a new way of life.
I have not heard of anyone not loosing weight. I guess there could be some out there. I do know that everyone looses at different rates but it does come off.
Good luck.

Must have missed your first post....I had surgery 15 months ago...and I tell EVERYONE what I did...
Those 4 inch rolls...are they bread? Get ready to do without a lot of the carbs you may be used to having......a lot of times, its not how often we eat, it's WHAT we are eating.....there are lots of ideas on here for meals.....and after surgery, you will find your groove!
Any idea on how far out surgery might be?

Didn't see your last post. I made the mistake of letting a lot of people know what I was planning and all I got was alot of grief which only messed with my head. Everyone knew someone who died or something. I finally decided to do what I saw fit which is have surgery. Tell only what you are comfortable telling. It is your decision.

Welcome, I've replied to your thread in Your Profiles. Just give us some time in replies, as we are all in different time zones, so you may be posting when many of us are asleep
You WILL lose willy nilly, if you stick to your surgeon's instructions, and follow the pouch rules. However, there are ways to cheat, and if you do, then you may not be able to get the results you wish, or, regain after you've lost. This is a lifelong commitment.
(((((HUGS)))) May your journey go well.
