Everyone will vary, but here is my experience....

My surgeon recommends 2 weeks off work if you have a desk job. I could have easily been alone coming home from the hospital, I felt just fine, just tired and a bit of discomfort. I was only in the hosp one night. I am 10 days post op and plan to go back to work on Aug 10th unless the surgeon tells me different at my post-op check on Thursday. My surgeon does not put a drain in, so I think that is one of the differences. Fatigue is my biggest enemy in all of this. (well, that and being addicted to this website!) LOL
Also, I had no trouble showering or anything alone. That being said, we also have all the handicap "stuff" for my husband: a shower seat and a hand-held shower head, but I think I would have been fine without it. I had a shower the 1st day post op at the hospital before they released me and have one every day since.
Here is hoping all goes smoothly for you as it has for me! No worries!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello,

I just had my surgery on July 24th and am feeling great. The first night in the hospital is yucky, they have you hooked to compression boots and IV's and stuff, and the bed is just so uncomfy. My biggest problem in the hospital was GAS - they fill you up during the surgery to check for leaks and stuff. So I'm sure your nurses will tell you to walk, walk and walk some more. Also, your abdominal muscles tend to feel as if you've done a million crunches. However, it's tolerable - I never used any pain medication besides the one or two shots of morphine on the first night. More than painful I would say it's "uncomfy" but it does get better each and every day. I'm going back to work on August 16th - so I took 3 weeks - could have 4 if I wanted but I think I'll be more than ready to get back into the world come the 16th. You'll do fine.

Best Wishes

Congrats on your recovery! You're doing great. Keep it up and you'll be fine. I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow. Still a bit sore, but it only bothers me when I over do it. I try to walk 20 minutes in the morning , 20 minutes at work, and 20 minutes at night. I'm hoping to switch to some low impact aerobics by Thursday. Of couse if the body objects to loudly I'll go back to walking.

Does anyone else have a job where they walk a lot and have to carry stuff? How long did you take off?

Thanks
