I have been wondering when i do have the surgery, how long the recovery time will be? The doctor says 3 weeks. But will i need someone at home to help take care of me? Will i be able to move around? Just wondering if any of you girls could share with me your experience. Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

All docs and procedures have a variety of times ~ My doc told me to plan for 4-6 weeks out of work and will only release you to another adult who will care for you til your able to take care of yourself, otherwise he sends you to a rehab center! Check with your doc ~ most on here did really well and were up and at em quickly ~ me? not so fast ~ I was out of work 5 solid weeks and needed all five but did go back full time when I went back ~ hint, I have a low pain threshold.

I took 4 weeks but probably could have gone back to work at 2. I think you will be surprised at how well you will feel after wards. My daughter helped me for the first couple of days but only because she wanted to. I could have pureed my own foods but stayed in my recliner enjoying being waited on. I did feel weak and lightheaded for several weeks but that passed.

Good luck to you.

I have found alot of it deoends on what exactly they do while your in surgery. Age and really how much you weigh when having it done. Meaing I have seen alot of people go back to work right away and others like myself staying out for several weeks. I had a complication and my liver was huge they told me so they had to mess around a bit more and I had old adhesions.

As for somone being with you. For the first few days I really would recommend it. You will know when your ready to let them go home or your ready to go home. My surgeon told my husband he had to stay with me for 2 weeks or he wouldnt let me go home. If Mike had to leave he would call my brother and him or his wife would come over or my oldest neice would come for the hour or so he was gone.

Thats my own advice. Im sure your surgeon will tell you what he wants when its time. Probally wouldnt hurt to ask him or his nurse ahead of time to make arrangments if necessary. Good Luck with all this honey. Take care.

Default recovery

Surgery recovery varies with patients. Your surgeon will probably give you some restrictions about lifting for the first 3-4 weeks. Light exercise is OK right away--like walking, etc. But "gym exercise" is normally not allowed until around 6 weeks post op. It's a good idea to have a family support system of some kind. If this is not possible, have a friend come over to stay. I would recommend you attend support group meetings at least once a month to learn how to cope with issues that may arise after surgery. The first few weeks you'll be nervous about anything "new" your body seems to be doing, and these meetings will help you get through these times. Good Luck on your journey. I had RNY some 3 years ago and have done very well. DAVE

I took 5 weeks off. The first 3 days were surgery and hospital stay, then I went home on day 3 and spent the rest of the first week on pain pills and sleeping a lot. It really helped to have someone there to fetch my water and fix my food (I was sent home on pureed).

The rest of the time I was OK by myself, just extremey tired. I would find enough energy to do something for about half an hour to an hour, then it was back to the recliner for me. Yes, I probably could have gone back to work at week 3 or 4 but I didn't really feel energetic until week 5.

Cool

I went back to work 1 week later and felt a little weak, but ok. The first 2 nights at home were the worst. Sore, uncomfortable, alone in the dark and unable to get off the couch myself..... I cried...but it passes and I was the better for it. Good luck.

I was in hospital 4 days and then on the recliner in bedroom for almost 2 wks. went back to work after 2 wks and have had fine adjustments since, (trial and error ) everyone is different, i had the "what have I done" syndrome for about......1 wk. now I am enjoying the process and feel great.
