| Wow, Whatta day! and not exactly the good kind so. I was scheduled for my surgery today. I went in and the procedure of vital signs and IV went smooth. I had what they thought was a hernia from my recent V.P shunt in my abdomen. And my surgeon also had to clamp off my shunt end in my abdomen so the CO2 did not enter it.(the gas that they use to 'expand' the area so they can see what they are doing, and my shunt would allow it up straight into the middle of my brain. which a tiny bit might not hurt me, but the normal amount would kill me)
so I was put under and I just remember getting a shot and something in my IV.
I was taken out of the operating room not even an hour later. my parents were in the waiting room and thought I had died when the surgeon came to talk to them. I was told I could not have the surgery today. WHAT??? why? but the nurse was so nice and kind, she explained what had happened. My shunts end is supposed to be in the abdominal cavity to drain and the body would reabsorb it. BUT my shunt had found a nice spot between some of my fat and skin walls. the tube was inaccessible to clamp but would still be flooded with the CO2 gas. This 'hernia' was a giant mass collection of spinal fluid under my skin.
oh. my. god.
ugh my body is so bad at healing! I have to have my shunt fixed asap because it will run out of room(it absorbs a little bit but its like a big bulge sticking out of my side.) and then my shunt will fail. backing up into it's origin(*mah brain*ohh la la) and need to be fully replaced( ahhh stop drilling into my skull weirdos!)
so. I was disappointed by all of this, BUT I am so glad I found out BEFORE my shunt failed! I was a little upset that I had a extremely low cal liquid diet for nothing! ahh! but thats no one's fault, no one had any idea what was going on in there until they looked.
BTW. I had two of the laproscopic(sp?) holes in me and one of my bandages fell off a few mins ago. it is really rather small. and weird, cuz its just... a hole. lol. anyway, I will be rescheduling my RNY after I have my neurosurgeon fix me up.
I took my family( mom dad brother) out to eat tonight, to celebrate not dying!
We went to olive garden(oh la la!) cuz Steven Seagal was talking about it on his show and my memory must really be shot cuz I was like "i have never been there!!! lets go!" apparently I have been there. xD
but they serve wayyy tooo much food. I ate like a bite of a breadstick(amazing! i dont remember olive garden breadsticks, but they are so good) and maybe 1/8 of the food they brought to me. so maybe fasting so long has shrunk my tummy, for now at least lol.
I was shocked today. I was glad. I was scared. I was confused. I was strong.
and I didn't even cry.... all day! yup.
I'm really amazed at my self. I act like a 10 year old since having all the neurological problems, and have a ton of mood swings.
but today I was ok. calm , cool, semi-collected. scratch that I am never collected. but I am ok. and I think I can do this.
I did not experience any pain after they opened (lapro) except my one shoulder kinda hurts? wth I am so medically weird.
anyway. Thank you to everyone on this board, Even If i haven't chatted directly to you, I really do feel a lot more support since joining.
<3 and hope to all of you
we can do it!!!
=^.^=

(((HUGS))) Oh, my. Glad they found that out. Who knows, some of the problems you are having might get better once the shunt is placed properly and functioning as it should.
Wishing you a quick date on everything.

thank you ladybug and doc
i guess my neurosurgeon wants me up in long island(i live in central/south nj) soon.
he's very good, people come to the group he is with( the Chiari Institute) from all over the world. knowing him he will expect me up there this week ._. but he is also very flexible which I love. The bariatric surgeon will do it as soon as it is safe to go in.
it was a bit disappointing, but I'm very glad I found out so I can have it fixed.
ps. ladybug- You look great!
doc- is the avatar pic you? very pretty!
