Well after much research on line, and the docs consultation, I have my surgery date Aug 20 at Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok. From what I read in this forum I had a much easier road to approval. This does not make me uneasy as far as the doctor is concerned or the procedure but the post op diet and vitamin, mineral and protein info is a bit worrying. I can get most things here as I could in the states just harder to find but not much on menus.

You might want to confirm your followup support network if you live in the States. Many surgeons won't handle someone else's patient. That has come up before as a challenge for those who have out-of-country surgery.
Good luck!!

Good luck in your journey... Make sure you talk to the surgeon about the vitamins supplements... Here in the Netherlands I have very little option with respect to proteins, there are maybe 3 brands of shakes available and a bit more of bars... I'm lucky one of the shakes I like and the protein bars I like a few... After a few months you are able to get the protein just through food, right now I will take a shake or bar maybe once a week only...

Well 26 more days until surgery can't wait!!! The only thing that makes me nervous is that I drink 6-8 liters of water daily and I perspire profusely after the surgery, will I get enough water to make up the difference?? don't forget Thailand is a climate of 80 to 90 degrees daily.
The other question I have is: It sounds like most of you have had this surgery open and not lapro. This would make a big difference in the pain I should think and the healing process is much longer. Yes?
Regards

Congratulations on your date.
You'll have to work on your water as you go, but as you lose weight, you may find that you perspire less, so you will need less water.
As for the method of surgery, the majority of our memebers have had laparoscopic RNY. These days, open is rarely done, unless the surgeon feels more comfortable with it, or, something comes up during surgery so it has to be switched to open. The inner healing time is the same regardless of whether you have it lap or open. The skin incisions do heal faster with lap because you have 4-5 1 1/2 ro 2 inch incisions in comparison to the long incision with open. All in all, the total healing time for EVERYTHING--the pouch, the rearranged gut, the realigning and readjusting of all the functions of the orggans involded and affected--will take 3-4 months.

It will take you awhile to build your fluid intake back up to your current level. Many of us have found that, although we sweat excessively before the surgery (as fat people often do), after the surgery and some weight loss we don't sweat nearly as much. With fewer fat cells metabolizing, there is less heat generated internally, so the body doesn't have to work as hard at trying to cool itself, therefore less sweat!!
Sure, when I'm working hard in the mid-80s with 85% humidity I'll have it running off me, but at work I can throw my computer bag over my shoulder and run up three flights of stairs without breaking a sweat. I used to start dripping at the thought of taking the stairs!!
There are a lot of changes waiting to make your life so much more enjoyable than it is now.
