Aastephens,
I am feeling great now. Almost back to normal physically (except for the eating of course) also things like walking, moving around and flexibility are much better than before. Thank God, I have had no major negative issues following my procedure. I have been taken off of 2 of the 4 meds I was on for blood pressure and my pressure seems to be responding nicely to the weight loss which was my major goal. I was blessed to be able to go to the best doctors in Chicago and one of the top centers of excellence in the midwest. My doctor and his team are and were very thorough and I have been and continue to be supported by them every step of the way. A few members of his staff have had the procedure as well and it is comforting that they know what they are talking about from first hand experience. He has very strict rules that I have followed to the letter.
I am down around 35 or 38 lbs

and I can tell the difference in my clothes. People are beginning to really notice now and I am not exactly sure how I feel about all of the attention. My wonderful husband says I am not exciting anymore because I don't eat and don't even have the desire to eat like I used to! I just laugh at he and his perfect 175 lb self. So all in all, I will say that I am doing GREAT

And if I had to do it all over again, I would do it without question or thought. Is it easy? No. Does it get easier as you get into a routine, yes. But you have to be dedicated and remember your reasons for doing it in the first place. Please feel free to ask me anything. I will support you anyway I can.
Because of your African American comment, I am going to assume you are AA as well. I have done a whole lot of research on my procedure prior to having it done. I have not read that statistic about AA vs. caucasians. Nor, has my surgeon or his team shared that information with me. Why did he or she say that to you? It almost sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy. Does your surgeon not have faith in your ability? I would love to read the research he or she is quoting and I think you should question him or her on it. If you get the chance, ask him or her to provide you with that documentation so you can have the chance to review it for yourself. Then let me know what it is so I can read it also.
I don't believe in luck so I will not wish you good luck. I will wish you well and a successful, uneventful surgery and recovery.

Congrats on making this decision to add to your life by losing.

Even though I am not that far out of surgery, I would be happy to answer any questions you have.
Take care!
