Default Weight loss prior to surgery?

Perhaps I am the only person who does this...compare my weight loss to others on this site. I do read all the time, but I do not post often. I feel like I am not doing as well as others, so perhaps my comments do not merit. Wow one great poster today lost 63 pounds since September. I have barely lost that much since April. Years of yo-yo/starvation dieting has put my system way out of wack. Prior to surgery I was already exercising 5 days a week (although, it did not show) and eating very little. My body is probably saying exercise, little food - yeah been there done that. So it is fighting me some. Nonetheless, I have lost more weight in the last few months than I did with years of Weight Watchers. In fact my doctor is quite pleased with me. If I can lose another 9lbs by April 14, I am a clinical success for my program. Another difference in my program is that I was not required to do a liquid fast before surgery. The doctor just asked I lose a few pounds for my liver to shrink. She asked for 12lbs, I lost 6lbs and she was fine with that. If I had done a 2 week liquid fast I am sure I would be futher along now. How many of you had to fast for 2+ weeks before surgery? How much weight did you guys lose before your surgery date? How much have you lost total since your surgery date? Everytime I read folks stats, I think Wow that is fast. What is wrong with you Caroline....

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

you have lost a little over 7 lbs a month which is great. I compared others loss to mine and it almost drove me crazy. I would calculate their weight loss, how much it is per week then per month, and it was a bad thing to do for my own journey. There were months I lost nothing and weeks I lost 5 lbs. I cant explain this surgery but it is what it is. Keep doing what you are doing and check back here. This is a great support tool!

Caroline - You are doing fine. QUIT comparing! Stick around and read and post. I think that it helps.

Don't look back. Look ahead.
Compare your present life with your past life. What are the improvements?
Most people are their own worst critic and worst enemy.
You're doing fine, but it does look like you have to focus more on your achievements such as how many pills you've gotten rid of, where you shop for your clothes now, how many stairs you can run up, etc etc etc, rather than count what you didn't do in the past.

normal but not helpful--it is a fine line between staying accountable with ourselves and allowing the numbers to dictate--we all freak out and can easily be discouraged!! Generally, I think we all wish we had more weight loss than we do!! I try to not calculate what others are doing I tend to grab on to the negative--miss the positives--I'm sure you have read like I have how numbers are deceiving--you can have lost in many other ways--you may turn around one week and dump more than you expected! It will come off keep working your program!! 7x12+84 lbs in a year--Sounds good to me!!

There's always going to be someone who has lost more than me and there's always going to be someone who has lost less than me....don't get sucked into the comparison game...I know it's easier said than done, but you have to really try!!

I only had to do a liquid diet for the 24 hour period before the surgery....seems like every doctor requires different things...

You are doing great....set small goals, like maybe in 10 lb increments, and your weight loss will feel like it's flying by in the long run!

Keep up the great work!!

The doctor considers 60% to 70% loose of excess weight a success. So if they ask you to loose 12 pounds and you get half way there, at least you're trying.

In my case, My own weight goal is to get to 163 pounds. My surgeon would be happy with 180 pounds.

cara first of all Psych your mind into not comparing your losses to another..no two are alike, we are individual people doing the best we can do...9 lbs and your a success welll baby look in the mirror and see what a beautiful successful person you really are, dont look at the computer and read others stats and see failure in yourself !
we all fight our demons everyday, will it change ofr us , most likely not, but we do and continue doing the best that we can, let me ask you this , are you feeling better? Is your health better? Do you look better physically? If you answer yes to any of these then you my dear have done great ! keep up the great work cara you will get to that goal you want..
Oh and for the record, no i never had to lose any weight or do a liquid diet except the day prior to surgery...

annie~

I know, our stats are good thing to have but sometimes we do find ourselves comparing and if it happens t be a tough day it sometimes makes it tougher seeming like someone else is doing so great.our bodies unfortunately all work diffrently, so is our weightloss,it can be nerve recking if you let it, just celebrate little things,I been stalled for 2 1/2 months at 201-203 a couple pounds from onderland and my body doesn't want to budge!!! I've cried , kicked and screamed but nohing changed my body will move when it's ready and I hope it's ready soon (lol)but finding a good thing I went and had my rings sized from a 10 1/2 to a 7,celebrate!!!! even though I wish my finger wasn't the only thing a size 7 it's a process ,you'll get there, and no matter how often you post or not your concerns and questions are valid.... keep in touch.

I understand what you are saying....I have felt the same way at times! Now it is more about how I feel healthwise and that couldn't be better, also my relationship with food is so changed.
