Question Please tell me what i am feeling is normal?

Hi Guys,

My doc called and I had to go for a preop heart and lung clearance. Over the last few months my thyroid is acting nuts so I have been having heart. Palpatations. Went to heart doc yesterday,EKG was fine, doing a stress test Thursday. He didn't feel anything major was going on.

Now that I am getting closer to a date,I am thiinking this iss not a good idea.I know I have tried everything to lose the weight and this may be my only chance, but I am seriously considering backing out. My head says, hey if the docs say everything is good, then I need to go for it. I have imagined myself thinner an then now I am thinking, I can't do this. How am I going to make it through the liquid diet for two weeks? I thought I could do it as I thought of the end result as I want it bad, but why. Now when I am sooo close?

Has anybody else felt that way?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Only about 85% of us. Perfectly normal. What you are planing to do is about the most unnatural act you can commit. You're going to go in and have someone you've met twice cut your digestive system into little pieces and staple it all back together in a way that nature never intended, and to top that off, you'll have to spend the next 6-9 months relearning how to eat!! This isn't something you do on a whim!!

It's something you do as a last act of desperation, one final cry for help before you abandon yourself to a short, sick life of immobile obesity. Sure, there are risks associated with going through with it. What are the risks of doing nothing? Any doctors in your life playing fortune-teller recently with stories best told around a campfire on a dark night?

Only when you want to seize your life and health back worse than you've ever wanted anything in your life, only when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, only when you've absorbed the last bit of shame and humiliation from the world over your physical condition, only then are you ready!! (Can I get me an "AMEN" on that??)

This is serious medicine, to be approached with concern. It is completely doable. Advances in medical technology even since I had mine are making WLS much safer than ever before.

The best way to fight fear is with knowledge. It's the unknown that's spinning your head around. Study it thoroughly. Make sure you are going in from a position of strength. There are thousands of people on this forum, and we've lost over 120 tons of fat through the methods we've chosen. (Put another way, that's the weight of roughly 5 dozen Ford F-150 pickup trucks!!)

Hang in there. It's hard. This is not the "easy way" some ignorant people may tell you. There's nothing easy about it (except following the rules will get easier the more you do it.)

You are going through a completely normal set of emotions right now. Hang in there!

AMEN. Perfesser said it best. And I agree with Dixie too. This surgery was life changing and I don't regret it one bit. I too was scared, but once I realized I was more scared of what might happen if I did not do it , I calmed down. I put my trust in God, my surgeon, and his team and it worked for me. I read, understood, and agreed to follow the rules and it worked for me. But only you can make that decision for yourself. Good Luck

AMEN!

I was having some second thoughts and then we discovered diabetes....that was the "here's your sign" for me.

I feel so much better. If you had asked me during those first 4 wks I wouldn't have been so positive. My recovery was a tad rough, but here I am, over 4 months out and feeling so much better....not just from the procedure, but overall.

You have to make the decision for yourself, but I can tell you that if you're worried about your heart now, think of what it has to do to work to pump the blood around. Our fat has a lot of blood flow. Our joints have to support the extra weight. Our liver has been subjected to fat growth and has to work hard to filter our blood. The health problems are not going to get any better.

I wish you well on your journey.

This is an awesome group. It's OK to have these thoughts. We'll be here to put things into perspective.

Best of luck!
Mel

Ok, thank you so much for the replies. I think the old me that doesn't like change and the unknown is freaking out. I passed the lung test yesterday and doing the stress test today.

I need this to get back my life and I know it. Just hate the unknown and with all these added problems it has just scared me off.

I had my sign when I went to chilis and dreaded sitting cause it was on wooden chairs and was thinking God, please tell me what to do. Out of nowhere a friend of mine that I had lost touch with, shows up and hugs me. We went out later that week and she told me she had done it and she knew this is what I needed. Is that not a message coming from nowhere?

After the recent scares with my heart, I am thinking maybe I got the message wrong, but you all bring up excellent points. Maybe it was another message to do this so I do get healthier. My hubby is supporting whatever I choose but I know he would like his skinny wife back not because of the weight issue, but because I was happier and healthier. Just so freaked,I can't stop going back and forth.

Thanks for the advice,it is all appreciated and I plan to bug you more often!

Normal? Absolutely! I think it is almost "not normal" to not second guess this major decision! It is life changing decision! But wanted you to know that I also had some issue immediately pre-op with MAJOR heart palpitations. All turned out benign. Cardiologist felt that it was stress related to the my concern of the surgery. Palpitation hung on for a while post op but knowing that all was "cleared" as benign helped me not stress as much on them and for the most part they have all be disappeared.
Thinking of you!

Thanks Cyndie,

I think that is the "heart "of the matter. I have been having palpatations and today I did the stress test and passe. My heart rate was 178,but they said that was fine???? The doc looked at everything and said it looked great. I asked about the pulse rate and she said oh, as soon as surgery is done, that will go down. Then another assistant came in and we started talking and she said do you know they do this with you upside down? That confused me. I have not spoken with the surgeon yet other than meeting him at two meetings and that was not discussed. What is she talking about?
