Hello,

I had surgery on December 5. I am struggling so much with the emotional part of eating. Right now I want a large pizza and a two liter of diet coke. Help!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Let's see - you're three weeks out tomorrow ... go ahead and try the pizza and pop. Your pouch's reaction is guaranteed to cure you of ever wanting that again!!

I haven't had soda pop since several months before my surgery. As much diet Dew and diet Coke as I used to drink, it seems strange that I don't miss it in the least, but I have no desire for even a taste. I eat pizza, but I'm 4 years post. I don't eat a lot of pizza, and it has to be thin crust or I just eat the toppings. With the fat and the grease in the toppings, though, I would not suggest you experiment with it until you know a lot more about your pouch and what she wants from you!

Do a search for the keywords "head hunger". That's what you're going through now. Instead of looking back at what you can't eat right now, look ahead to a glorious future and what you'll do with your life once you reach Onederland!!

I had pizza cravings too. So we went out one night and I ate (TRIED to eat) just the topping. It was sooooooooo nasty! All I tasted was grease or fake cheese and fake chicken. Whatever it was... I could only handle a couple bites and I'm cured me of my pizza cravings!!!

How are you doing now? Has the craving passed? Sometimes, cravings are "emotions" and they do pass... if we can be patient. Easier said then done.
I have rarely had pizza since surgery almost a year ago. It is the one food I have asked my family not to bring home..(Eat it out, please!) Soda??pop?? I think I had it before surgery and can't remember any since. I don't miss it.
Pizza- even the topping- I have no desire for it...and it isn't weight loss friendly..too salty? I don't know, but it slows weight loss.
I have made meatballs...beef.. and put sauce on them... then I serve them with a vegetable..no pasta... like green beans. This was a strange combo at first ut tasty.. and took care of my yen for Italian food. GOOD LUCK>

I had noticed for years that when I was calorie restricting, I always was depressed. The anti dieting crowd says that if you do not eat a certain amount of calories a day, you get depressed.

I found for me, the answer was much simpler. Simply, when I was nervous, anxious or whatever, I'd eat. And when you no longer can do that (whether you've had surgery or not) you get depressed. You know, they took away our teddy bear, so to speak.

As a new op, you might get sick when you overeat but you will, in time, find ways of getting around that. For example, a milkshake just slips right down regardless of how much trouble you have swallowing.
Because remember, the original problem with why we consumed too much food was not because our digestive system worked! So sooner or later, you will start grappling with the ghosts you may not have grappled with for years.

Only recently, oh, in the past couple of months maybe, I found myself, bawling my eyes out about something my father did (or didn't) do. I'd never dealt with it before.

I will say, as the time passes of me being on this program and keeping off the weight, those times of grappling with the past are getting fewer and farther between.

Books like some of those from Dr Phil and the like, do help. Doing the exercises in them can help avoid some of the low times. But you will get them.

That's another thing no one tells folks about weight control and weight loss and why there is a higher rate of suicide among folks who cannot physically eat what they did and/or a high regain rate. It doesn't have to happen to you though. Just know what is causing it and deal with it and fight through it. Remember, "the only way to the other side is through".

You can do it. That is, you are not really craving the pizza but the feeling or relaxation eating it caused you. There are other ways of obtaining that feeling - for everyone. Yoga, taking a walk, getting a four footed friend and/or playing with that friend.

Do the 20 minute rule. You are really craving something- wait 20 minutes. And start doing something to take your mind off. Dollars to donuts in 20 minutes the craving will go away.

Hope this helps - I have read tons of books about weight loss and keeping off the weight (besides fighting this battle most of my life) and not a one of the books I read, told me about things like this - I felt like I was blazing the pioneer trail.

Evil Evil head hunger!! When I get the munchies, I pop in a really minty piece of gum (I think I read that RNYers don't all chew gum or aren't supposed to?)....that helps me some as I think my mouth and brain are somewhat connected!! Everyone's right, can't give in to those pizza/pop cravings......although it would only happen once
