I had noticed for years that when I was calorie restricting, I always was depressed. The anti dieting crowd says that if you do not eat a certain amount of calories a day, you get depressed.
I found for me, the answer was much simpler. Simply, when I was nervous, anxious or whatever, I'd eat. And when you no longer can do that (whether you've had surgery or not) you get depressed. You know, they took away our teddy bear, so to speak.
As a new op, you might get sick when you overeat but you will, in time, find ways of getting around that. For example, a milkshake just slips right down regardless of how much trouble you have swallowing.

Because remember, the original problem with why we consumed too much food was not because our digestive system worked! So sooner or later, you will start grappling with the ghosts you may not have grappled with for years.
Only recently, oh, in the past couple of months maybe, I found myself, bawling my eyes out about something my father did (or didn't) do. I'd never dealt with it before.
I will say, as the time passes of me being on this program and keeping off the weight, those times of grappling with the past are getting fewer and farther between.
Books like some of those from Dr Phil and the like, do help. Doing the exercises in them can help avoid some of the low times. But you will get them.
That's another thing no one tells folks about weight control and weight loss and why there is a higher rate of suicide among folks who cannot physically eat what they did and/or a high regain rate. It doesn't have to happen to you though. Just know what is causing it and deal with it and fight through it. Remember, "the only way to the other side is through".
You can do it. That is, you are not really craving the pizza but the feeling or relaxation eating it caused you. There are other ways of obtaining that feeling - for everyone. Yoga, taking a walk, getting a four footed friend and/or playing with that friend.
Do the 20 minute rule. You are really craving something- wait 20 minutes. And start doing something to take your mind off. Dollars to donuts in 20 minutes the craving will go away.
Hope this helps - I have read tons of books about weight loss and keeping off the weight (besides fighting this battle most of my life) and not a one of the books I read, told me about things like this - I felt like I was blazing the pioneer trail.
