Smile Question

Hello this is my first post, so bare with me. I am four weeks out and have started the phase of eating 2-3 oz of protein at a time My question is do I still need to drink the shakes?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I would say yes, but I drank the shakes for several months after surgery. Everyone is different. It certainly wont hurt to get the extra protein because as you go along, you will be needing to increase your protein anyway. Some still drink the shakes, just as a supplement even if they are getting enough from food. There still may be times that some foods will not agree with you and you may not get the amount of protein that you need. You will definately want to have the shakes available if you need them.

I agree, it is doubtful you will get enough protein in with 2-3 oz a day. So, drink the rest. The protein is the key to success+ all that water!!! Water flushes out your kidneys, lurking protein is not so good for kidneys It is a ying/yang balance.

I could not tolerate the shakes post op, so I do shots. You can buy them or make them. I take 2 oz water, 1 scoop protein powder and some crystal light. I seem to generally tolerate well and I get 26 g protein in 2 oz. Helps keep me up in the 75-100g range my dr wanted. Some Nuts/Dr's want nothing less then 100. Really hard to do on food alone.

You need the protein. If the shakes are a useful help in hitting your levels, use them. If you hate them, find another way to get the protein. The overriding principle here is to make darned good and sure that you are hitting both your protein and liquid intake goals. As your food intake levels increase, your need for liquid protein will taper off, but if you like them, make them part of your regular diet.

Peanut makes a protein shake every morning in the blender with 16 ounces of milk, a double scoop of chocolate protein powder and half a banana. She has done that for years since her RNY. She likes it and it makes an easy breakfast for her.
