Question 4 days out & belching

I am 4 days out from surgery & the belching is becoming a major problem. Everything I drink causes more gas build up and it is becoming quite painful. I am taking a 2 a day script for gas/indigestion but it isn't helping much. The worse part is I'm not belching nearly as much as I need to to keep up with production and I'm bloating lick a hot air balloon! Is it normal to have a lot of gas after surgery and any sugestions on how to get rid of it?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Oh yes, very normal. They pump you full of gas to do the surgery and it takes a while for it to leave you body. It can take different ways to leave the body shall we say mine was not burping. lol.... It will get better. Walking and sipping warm liquids seemed to help me a lot.

Ok, did some searching and I am going to try a few things. First I have been taking Prilosec for years to help with acid reflux and was told to keep taking it until the surgury to help fight off ulcers but wasn't told if I should keep taking it after so I quit. The posts I read regarding Prilosec/Nexium all said the same, they got gassy until they started taking it again and it helped a lot. Secondly, I am going to try gas-ex since it will take up to a week for the Prilosec to build back up in my system. I'll keep you all posted on how it all works out....

I was told to take Prilosec for 3 months after surgery and then to come off of it slowly. Your plan sounds good. Good luck.

First thing for you - don't try to be subtle or genteel about your belching! Let it out expressively and it'll reduce the pressure much more effectively.

I'm still taking Omeprazole (generic Prilosec) 4 years later. And I can still occasionally belch all the way to "O"!!

Everyone's different. Your mileage may vary. Just be glad it's chosen this way to exit!!

I am 10 days out from surgery and I have discovered the same problems. I do walking and moving around a lot. But a friend who had this surgery at the beginning of the year told me to sip from a glass that is thin and smooth. I was shocked when it helped. Now I have less air being swallowed and less gas.
